You should be logged in to and account with Administrator privileges to this. Go to Start > Run (Search box in Vista) > and type 'cmd' and hit enter (NOTE * if you are running Vista, you need to hit "Ctrl + Shift + Enter" instead of just the Enter key so you can "Run as an Administrator") When the Command Line opens, do the following: type 'ping google.com' and hit enter If you are having DNS issues, you will not get a "Reply" it will just hang there and not do anything, so hit "Ctrl + C" on your keyboard to stop the ping. now type 'ping 4.2.2.4' and hit enter If you get a "Reply", you now know that know that your internet connection is working, but DNS resolution is not. type 'ipconfig /all' in command prompt look for where it says: "DNS Servers........" and write down the IP address that is says to the right. (10.2.3.4 for example) Try to ping that IP address. If you don't get a reply then you need to contact your ISP, the problem is on their end. If you do get a reply, try the following in the command line prompt to fix this issue. type 'ipconfig /flushdns' and hit enter - Now try to ping google again, if you still can't get a response: type 'net stop dnscache'
