What's wrong? (Name withheld by request) Something has changed in your computer, for better or for worse, but the change wasn't complete. The most likely reason is that you removed a program that Windows is still attempting to load. First, grab a pencil and paper and boot your computer. Write down the full text of the error message; the correct path and file names are especially important. Also, make sure that you get the spelling right. Once you're back in Windows, select Start, Search (in XP), Start, Search, For Files or Folders (in 2000 and Me), or Start, Find, Files or Folders (in 98). Enter the error-message text in the "file name" field (the exact name of the field varies from version to version of Windows), select your hard drive in the 'Look in' menu, and click Search o

Windows Symptoms Basics Maintenance Error Messages by Tim Fisher https://malwaretips.com/blogs/backgroundcontainer-dll-virus-removal/ Updated March 10, 2015 It might seem silly that I've written a set of instructions for "fixing errors" considering the thousands of possible error messages a computer user could see just from the time you turn the power on error message to when your desktop is up and available. However, the fact that you have an error message puts you in a class of relatively lucky victims of computer failure. An error message gives you a specific place to work from, unlike a vague symptom like a blank screen or no power at all. Important: If your computer is having trouble starting but isn't showing any kind of error message then skip these instructions and instead see How To computer error messages Fix a Computer That Won't Turn On for a better troubleshooting guide for whatever symptom your computer is experiencing.Difficulty: AverageTime Required: Anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on the exact error messageHow To Fix Errors Seen During the Computer Startup ProcessDocument the error message exactly. While this might seem obvious to some, transcribing the error message in its entirety and without mistake is possibly the most important thing you can do when you encounter an error message while your computer is starting.Misspelling a DLL file or writing down the wrong characters in a STOP code could have you trying to fix a problem with a file, driver, or piece of hardware that you don't actually have a problem with. As I mentioned above, there are thousands of errors one might see during a computer's startup process. However, there are a select few that seem to show up more regularly. If you're "fortunate" enough to receive one of these common errors, you can save yourself the trouble of searching around for a solution and instead get started on solving the problem that's causing the error: BOOTMGR is missing. The BackgroundContainer.dll program is a part of the Conduit Toolbar Verifier program, and is developed by Conduit, a company known for their malicious programs. The Conduit toolbar is a browser hijacker which is promoted via other free downloads, and once installed it will change your browser homepage and default search engine to http://seach.conduit.com. BackgroundContainer.dll is typically added when you install an Conduit toolbar, and it will check at Windows startup if the program is running properly. BackgroundContainer.dll is loaded via AppInit_DLLs. Normally, Windows registry loads such files but some of them are hidden to avoid detection. If for some reason couldn't be properly loaded because your system is still configured to run this file you are getting an RunDLL error with the following message. RUNDLL Error loading C:/User/(User name)/ AppData/Local/ Conduit/BackgroundContainer/BackgroundContainer.dll The specified module could not be found. OR RUNDLL There was a problem starting C:/User/(User name)/ AppData/Local/ Conduit/BackgroundContainer/BackgroundContainer.dll The specified module could not be found. This BackgroundContainer.dll Rundll error is basically caused by a Windows startup key which is trying to find the BackgroundContainer.dll which was either removed or moved from it's location.
