Jquery Error Message Popup
only takes a minute: Sign up Show error messages in div container for validations using Jquery up vote 1 down vote favorite I'm trying to show error messages in div container using jQuery for validation. So, instead of an http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17021615/display-error-message-in-a-separate-div-using-jquery-validation alert message, I want to show the error message after every control where ever the validation fails. if (name == '' || email == '' || mobile == '' || password == '' || cpassword == '') { var errName = document.getElementByID("name"); errName.innerHTML += "Please enter name"; errName.innerHTML += ".red {color:red;}"; document.getElementByID("name").val = errName; Any suggestions? javascript jquery html css html5 share|improve this question edited Mar 10 '15 at 3:17 AstroCB 7,668113261 asked Mar 10 '15 at 3:05 Harsh Singhi http://stackoverflow.com/questions/28955472/show-error-messages-in-div-container-for-validations-using-jquery 3229 Use a jquery validation plugin. –RaviH Mar 10 '15 at 3:23 where issue we will be suggesting? –Nin-ya Mar 10 '15 at 3:30 Actually, I am new to Jquery. Any ways ,I will try doing that. Thanks... –Harsh Singhi Mar 10 '15 at 6:45 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted A more pure jQuery approach would be as shown below jQuery Code if (name == '' || email == '' || mobile == '' || password == '' || cpassword == '') { var errName = $("#name"); //Element selector errName.html("Please enter name"); // Put the message content inside div errName.addClass('error-msg'); //add a class to the element } CSS: .error-msg{ background-color: #FF0000; } Update: You can even combine the jQuery methods on any selector. Whenever we apply a jQuery menthod on any selector, it returns a "this" pointer, so we can combine multiple methods and apply them to a selector using a single statement. This is called "chaining" Read more here: http://www.w3schools.com/jquery/jquery_chaining.asp if (name == '' || email == '' || mobile == '' || password == '' || cpassword == '') { $("#name").html("Please enter name") .addClass("error-msg"); // chained methods } share|improve this answer edited Mar 11 '15 at 9:21 benzonico 7,13742243 answered Mar 10 '15 at 12:07 Yameen 346211 Thanks for this one... –Harsh Singhi Mar 10 '15 at 17:

I am using below code to setup jquery validate plugin for my form, there is a erroClass option in it, where I have defined a CSS class name authError which I want to apply on error messages, but its applying the same class to INPUT box as well, I don't want to apply it in INPUT box, just want it for error message. Please check and help. Thanks! $("#frmSignin").validate({ debug: false, errorClass: "authError", errorElement: "span", rules: jquery validation error { username: { required: true, minlength: 10 }, password: { required: true } }, messages: { username: { required: "Please enter your username" }, password: { required: "Please enter your password" } } }); javascript jquery validation share|improve this question edited Feb 14 '11 at 19:51 asked Feb 13 '11 at 7:13 Prashant 9,98153131195 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 20 down vote accepted Thanks, for the tricks guys, but I instead found a better way by using the jQuery code only. There is a highlight event in validate plugin which is called when error occurred to highlight the error fields, I just removed the class form element when this event is called. $("#frmSignin").validate({ debug: false, errorClass: "authError", errorElement: "span", rules: { username: { required: true, minlength: 10 }, password: { required: true } }, messages: { username: { required: "Please enter your username" }, password: { required: "Please enter your password" } }, highlight: function(element, errorClass) { $(element).removeClass(errorClass); } }); share|improve this answer answered Feb 14 '11 at 19:57 Prashant 9,98153131195 add a comment| Did you find this question interesting?
