So far I have the form to check if there's an email already registered, if it is, it will return Response.Write("There's already someone with that email") But the problem with this is that the message will only appear on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/24514431/error-message-position-in-mvc-razor the top of the website. Is there a way I could display these error messages somewhere else? I know that in the model I could just put [Required(ErrorMessage = "Something here")] And then just put in the view somewhere @Html.ValidationMessageFor(a =>a.Email) and it will display the error there. The code that I have for now is this: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Register(Registration signingUp) { var db = new ShareRideDBEntities(); if (ModelState.IsValid) { //find if email is already signed up var FindEmail = db.tblProfiles.FirstOrDefault(e => e.PROF_Email == signingUp.Email); //if email is not found up do this if (FindEmail == null) { var Data = db.tblProfiles.Create(); Data.PROF_Password = signingUp.Password; Data.PROF_Email = signingUp.Email; db.tblProfiles.Add(Data); int Saved = db.SaveChanges(); if (Saved != 0) { Response.Write("Registration Successful."); } else { Response.Write("There was an error."); } } else { Response.Write("There's already an user with that email."); return View(); } } else { Response.Write("Fill all the fields to continue."); } return View(); Now if I do this with an existing email it will return "There's already an user with that email." but it will be display on the top of the website. Here, we will see error message the HtmlHelper extension method ValidtionMessage in detail. The Html.ValidationMessage() is an extension method, that is a loosely typed method. It displays a validation message if an error exists for the specified field in the ModelStateDictionary object. ValidationMessage() Signature: MvcHtmlString ValidateMessage(string modelName, string validationMessage, object htmlAttributes) Visit MSDN to know all the overloads of ValidationMessage() method. how to display Consider the following ValidationMessage example. Example: ValidationMessage @model Student @Html.Editor("StudentName")
@Html.ValidationMessage("StudentName", "", new { @class = "text-danger" }) In the above example, the first parameter in the ValidationMessage method is a property name for which we want to show the error message e.g. StudentName. The second parameter is for custom error message and the third parameter is for html attributes like css, style etc. The ValidationMessage() method will only display an error, if you have configured the DataAnnotations attribute to the specifed property in the model class. The following is a Student model class where the DataAnnotations attribute "Required" is applied to the StudentName property. Example: Student Model public class Student { public int StudentId { get; set; } [Required] public string StudentName { get; set; } public int Age { get; set; } } The above code will generate f
ASP.NET Razor Web Pages 1 Comment 10 March 2015 13:07 4.3 (10 votes) ASP.NET Web Pages WebMatrix Bang! An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. And that's it - your visitor is met with the yellow screen of death and they are left wondering what they did wrong. You might not even be aware of what's just happened - unless your visitor can find some way of alerting you, oh, and they bother to do so. That's the problem with run time errors; the code worked fine when you ran it on your machine. But then along came a user and they tried to do something you didn't anticipate and broke your site. So what should you do about this? The key to managing the issue is understanding it. The kind of errors I'm discussing in this article fall into two distinct categories: runtime errors that result from assumptions you made in code that didn't cover all the bases; and ones that result from the unforeseen failure of dependencies. Let's first look at assumptions made in code. Here's a simple page with a form and a bit of code to process the form's values when it is submitted. The code takes the numbers entered into each box and divides one by the other: @{ var result = string.Empty; if(IsPost){ result = (Request["a"].AsDecimal() / Request["b"].AsDecimal()).ToString(); } }
