Storage errors on bootup: Buffer I/O error Started by Simon Andersen , 22 February 2014 - error on 10:28 AM Login to Reply storage errors bootup buffer i/o error 2 replies to this topic Best Answer James Cannon , 27 February 2014 - 05:43 PM Hi Simon, You are using SAN that has RDAC controller. You can only have one active path. When LUNs are setting to different active controller and XenServer is trying to access LUN on boot, it has error on device to wait, hence the I/O error. You may even have alert on SAN about Preferred Path not found. We have 2 options: 1. Ensure all LUNs on SAN are set to use the same active controller. 2. Configure XenServer to use RDAC (must disable multipathing in XenCenter first) per Admin Guide ... XenServer supports the LSI Multi-Path Proxy Driver (MPP) for the Redundant Disk Array Controller (RDAC) used by Dell MD Series. By default this driver is disabled. To enable the driver: 1. Open a console on the host, and run the following command: # /opt/xensource/libexec/mpp-rdac --enable 2. Reboot the host. To disable the driver: 1. Open a console on the host, and run the following command: # /opt/xensource/libexec/mpp-rdac --disable 2. Reboot the host. Note: This procedure must be carried out on every host in a pool.
