I wonder if anybody knows how serious are these issues. I cannot use smartmontools because the disks are handled by a 3ware card which has it's own (very limited tw_cli utility). Boot with the live CD and remove all references to it from /etc/fstab (comment them out!) and see if you have enough of a system remaining to boot up!
