At first, it looked like ALL of my pictures were gone. So, I went from the root of C unto my users and pictures and it said I didn't have permission and to click CONTINUE (with the shield) to gain permission. Pictures returned....mostly. I have a handful of directories that will not let me see their pictures or just a few of them. Same thing on them...says no permissions. So I click on CONTINUE and it tells me I've been denied access to the folder...I am the administrator and UAC is off. It said to gain access, go to the security tab. I do so and it says I do not have permission to edit or view object's securiy settings. Suggestions? I have no idea how this got so screwed up. Any ideas? Tuesday, July 06, 2010 11:24 AM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote Hi Brian, Please check if the issue can be resolved by System Restore. To do so, please perform the steps below: 1. Restart computer, press the F8 key before the Windows logo appears. 2. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press Enter. (If Repair your computer isn't listed as an option, then your computer doesn't include preinstalled recovery options, or your network administrator has turned th
it here, and reinstall is NO option) I couldn't un-install a certain program saying I didn't have rights I fiddled around with the rights to the point I messed it up I think? I restored most of it to default I think (I looked at my 2nd pc's ntfs rights and copied it). These are the problems: 1: I get lock icon on c:\programdata and when I add users it goes away but during applying half of the files say acces denied not sure if it matters? I have also seen ACL corrupt errors in that folder and I tried running the command which I googled but the CMD told me i needed to use another command which is newer version or something anyway couldn't figure it out. 2: C:\recovery has lock icon, my 2nd pc doesn't have this. Well I can https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/84a2f2bb-5a57-4c0b-ab59-3657344f7902/permissions-messed-up?forum=w7itprosecurity add users to it.. but my 2nd pc doesn't have user and no lock!! I want it like my 2nd pc. I feel this might also be the problem why I can't use Universal Restore with Acronis since the image can't acces boot in the right way maybe.. 3. Administrator account red cross, if I add administrator account to some folder it will have a red cross, I assume this isn't healthy!! how to solve this? 4.System volume information also has a lock icon, for same reasons as nr 2 I want to http://www.networksteve.com/windows/topic.php/Windows_7_ultimate_64_bit_Rights_messed_up!/?TopicId=47725&Posts=5 solve this. I googled and found a certain command which supposeidly fix all security rights, I did this and looked at the log file, and I got acces denied -_- How can I fix all correct ntfs, security, ownerships and whatever to default ? I have Windows XP Pro SP2 installed with all http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/access-denied-to-administrator.109558/ the latest updates. The problem is: Since past 2-3 days, I have been getting http://forums.lunarsoft.net/topic/4029-remaining-access-denials-and-incorrect-parameters/ Access Denied error. Whenever I try to modify any service or change in System Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe), I get an Access Denied error. But the case is, the changes actually happen inspite of giving me the error. The error says: An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on error setting using an Administrator account to make the specified changes. Actually, I am able to run all the windows programs & services. I have been using Zonealarm Pro for past 5-6 years and never faced any problem due to it. I update it as soon as a new version is available. I never faced this problem dur to Zonealarm before. Anyway, I checked the settings & the OS Firewall was off. I anyway error setting security keep it off cos it causes most of Windows Components to ask permission which is quite a nag. So, back to the problem. No, ZOnealarm Pro's OS Firewall is not causing the problem. I have scanned my computer with Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, Spyware Doctor, Pc-cillin 2006, Zonealarm Anti-spyware using latest definitions. But found nothing. I checked my system for any other problem such as this and found none. Have already tried replacing the current msconfig.exe with one from ServicePackFiles but of no use. I didn't play around with any tweaking software or gpedit. Plus, I always make a backup before doing any serious changes to my system. I also tried creating a new user with admin rights. Then ran msconfig.exe in that user. The problem was still there with msconfig.exe. It seems that the rights for the "Administrators" group have been messed up with. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Also, I found a couple of posts on net about how to reset my system policies & rights. Some of them are as follows: The first solution was: secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose The problem with above command is, it actually executes but later says that the file is missing. "secsetup.inf" file is there in my system but there is no "secsetup.sdb" file. So, basically this solution w

The only symptoms I'd had (so far!) were inability to install a higher version of Adobe Reader on one, and broken WMP video playback -- with inability to re-register wmp.dll -- on the other. At first I came across and applied that workaround of adding "Everyone" with full control to parent keys, but then read that that's not a permanent or wise way to go. So I used DAF and it fixed many key permissions on both (thank you!). But below are some remaining secrepair log errors from the XP Home SP2 machine that I don't know how to proceed on. I'm not sure if they would ever even interfere with anything, but wanted to ask if I should do something about them, and if so, what. Possibly-relevant details: I'm the owner/only user of these machines. On the one below I did set up a limited user account at one point, but never used it and recently deleted it. They're standalone machines and have never been networked. (FYI, I tried very hard to google up some answers before coming here to bother you; figured these exact error messages were as common as dirt and that I'd find a smorgasboard of completely relevant material. But noooo!!! Oh and please don't lose respect for me because I have AOL on this machine. I don't use it anymore and would love to scrub it out once and for all, but need to keep it if I want to be able to access old emails saved in its proprietary .pfc format, grrr!) ----Configure Registry Keys...
