Unanswered question This question has not been answered yet. Hi all, I am working from a UNIX environment that suddently started to generate the below errors when I access files in a specific VOB: test_view 237: cat stats.xls mvfs: ERROR: view=test_view vob=/vobs/docs - ClearCase vob error see view_log on host viewsrv1 for more info fetch cleartext view=test_view vob=/vobs/docs dbid=0xc864 - I/O error stats.xls: No such device or addres I tailed the view server log and it had recorded the following three entries for the error: 03/22/05 13:44:21 view_server(2785): Error: /usr/atria/lib/mgrs/z_whole_copy/construct_version116: /net/storage/vol/vob_storage/vobstg/docs.vob/s/sdft/3/2a/3-d87e23d8382a11d6bd9d001083ffe202-6c: Cannot find or open the file. 03/22/05 13:44:21 view_server(2785): Error: Type manager "z_whole_copy" failed construct_version operation. 03/22/05 13:44:21 view_server(2785): Error: Unable to construct cleartext for object "0x130D2" in VOB "vobsrv1:/net/storage/vol/vob_storage/vobstg/docs.vob": error detected by ClearCase subsystem The file I try to open is a compressed_file and when I try to do the same on a text_file the error message changed the "z_whole_copy" to "text_file_delta". The same problem exists if I use another view. I can copy and open files directly from the storage location without any problems. When I run a checkvob -pool no problems are reported. What is wrong or where should I continue my search? Best regards, Rune SystemAdmin 110000D4XK 47290 Posts RE:Unable to construct cleartext for object 2005-03-22T13:51:50Z This is the accepted answer. This is the accepted answer. One thing I can think of is to check the space on the tmp drive. -----Original Message----- From: owner-cciug@lists.us.ibm.com mailto:owner-cciug@lists.us.ibm.com On Behalf Of RuneKC Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 8:49 AM To: cciug@lists.us.ibm.com Subject: cciug Unable to construct cleartext for object Hi all, I am working from a UNIX environment that suddently started to generate the below errors when I access files in a specific VOB: test_view 237: cat stats.xls mvfs: ERROR: view=test_view vob=/vobs/docs - ClearCase vob error see view_log on host viewsrv1 for more info fetch cleartext view=test_view vob=/vobs

[ author ] Here is the SAMBA log file of my machine with debug level = 5. I have reproduced the problem and could see some errors in SAMBA debug log file. Can any one of you help me in fixing this problem. I noticed one more strange behaviour. I have no problems with ClearCase element created using UNIX view from NT client. I can checkin/checkout the file element from NT view if the element is created using UNIX view If I create a ClearCase element for the first time from NT view, I get MVFS errors. (For details see my earlier mail) Note again : >PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT A MEMBER OF SAMBA-TECHNICAL NEWS GROUP AND YOU ARE REQUESTED TO SEND YOUR REPLIES TO THE FOLLOWING MAIL ADDRESS - s.ravikiran at blr.sni.de Thanks in advance for your help and time Regards Ravikiran -----Original Message----- From: Richard Sharpe [SMTP:sharpe at ns.aus.com] Sent: Monday, July 27, 1998 10:58 AM To: s.ravikiran at blr.sni.de Cc: samba-technical at samba.anu.edu.au Subject: Re: ClearCase/SAMBA- help required Hi S.Ravikiran, I have no direct experience with ClearCase, but have heard of it. I suspect that the folks at Motorola Australia may have some experience with Samba and ClearCase, but you would have to ask them yourself. Also, someone else with ClearCase experience on this list might respond as well. Problem was reported to Rational. The response I got was that probelm might be due to SAMBA which is not supported by Rational. >We increased the MAX_OPN_FILES of SAMBA to 1024, and still the problem is not resolved. Hmmm, 1024 is kind of large, since that number is per-user, and an individual PC is not likely to ask for more than about 255, I think. >Since I did not get much help from CCIUG and FAQs I am posting this message to SAMBA-TECHNICAL news group. > >Please let me know, if anyone of you have come across this problem and any one of you could fix this problem?
