Error Unable To Determine Vob For Pathname Cleartool
Unable; determine; VOB; pathname; 1146285 Technote (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) This technote explains how to resolve the IBM Rational ClearCase error: Unable to determine VOB for pathname "." when importing elements into a VOB running clearimport. Cause Attempts to use the clearimport command result in the following error: Unable to determine VOB for pathname "." The clearimport command was not executed using the proper ClearCase view context. Example: C:\>clearimport M:\view1\VOB1 C:\cvt_data clearimport: Error: Unable to determine VOB for pathname ".". If the clearimport command is not executed within the context of a ClearCase view/VOB, then the -directory option must be used. Resolving the problem Option #1: Execute clearimport in a View/VOB context: Mount the destination VOB Start a View Set into the View and cd to the root of the VOB (or the directory to which the import will run). Execute the clearimport command Example: M:\view1\VOB1\dir1>clearimport c:\temp\cvt_data Option #2: Execute clearimport using the -directory option outside a View/VOB context: Mount the destination VOB Start a View Set into the View Execute the clearimport command using the -directory option where the directory path is the VOB path to the destination location. Example: C:\>clearimport -directory M:\view1\VOB1\dir1 c:\temp\cvt_data Document information More support for: Rational ClearCase Converter: clearimport Software version: 7.0, 2002.05.00, 2003.06.00 Operating system(s): AIX, HP-UX, IRIX, Linux, Solaris, Windows Reference #: 1146285 Modified date: 2010-10-27 Site availability Site assistance Contact and feedback Need support? OR UNMOU NTED Subscribe You can track all active APARs for this component. APAR status Closed as Permanent restriction. Error description Steps to repro: 1. Create a VOB named testvob 2. Ensure that the VOB is not mounted. 3. Run the following command cleartool describe vob:\testvob The VOB describes as it should. 4. With the VOB still unmounted please run the following command. cleartool describe vob:/testvob it will fail with the following error http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21146285 message. M:\>cleartool desc vob:/testvob cleartool: Error: Unable to determine VOB for pathname '/testvob' 5. Mount the VOB using the following command. cleartool mount \testvob. 6. describe the VOB again using the following command. cleartool describe vob:/testvob The command will complete sucessfully. Workaround: The workaround here is to mount the VOB but there is an inconsitency that needs http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1PK66950 to be corrected. Derek would like it to either fail 100% of the time or work 100% of the time reguardless of if the VOB is mounted or not. Local fix Problem summary Anon-native platform directory delimiter (eg, a UNIX "/" in a Windows environment) does not alway work in ClearCase. Problem conclusion This is an unusual scenario. From there, for managing access to specific baselines of UCM components in non-UCM views, you can follow an approach similar to "Merging from a Project to a Non-UCM Branch" in a perl script (done to merge, but you can adapt it, in order to build a config spec for said non-UCM view): This script below is for projects which uses recommended baselines, and is given as an example of using the "%[root_dir]p". If you don't use recommended baselines, you would simply list all components for a given stream: cleartool descr -fmt "%[components]CXp" stream:aStream@\aPVob print("######## Getting recommended baselines for project '$project'\n"); my @recbls = split(' ', ‘cleartool lsproject -fmt "%[rec_bls]p" $project‘); foreach $bl (@recbls) { my $comp = ‘cleartool lsbl -fmt "%[component]p" $bl‘; my $vob = ‘cleartool lscomp -fmt "%[
