Hi everybody, I'm trying to get gd-2.0.1 to work with a new instance of apache and php4.0.6 and I got two errors: Although GD seems to install just fine (with jpeg, png and zlib support) it does _not_ create a libgd.a file. I'm unable to find any hints, be it in this forum, others or the manual. The second thing is, I configure PHP with --enable-gd-native-ttf but when running it says "checking whether to enable truetype string function in gd... no" A few lines later configure stops with "error: Unable to find libgd.(a|so) anywhere under /usr/local/include/freetype2" Any hints on how to get a libgd.a and how to enable ttf for gd? Is the second thing even needed for using freetype fonts with gd (it seems so but...) ;) My PHP config script reads as follows: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/php \ --with-config-file-path=/usr/local/php/lib/php.ini \ --enable-trans-sid \ --enable-track-vars \ --with-apache=/usr/local/src/apache_1.3.22 \ --with-oci8=/usr/local/oracle \ --with-mysql=/home/mysql \ --with-jpeg-dir=../jpeg-6b \ --with-png-dir=../libpng-1.0.8 \ --with-zlib \ --with-zlib-dir=/usr/lib \ --with-openssl=/usr/local/openssl \ --with-curl=/usr/local/curl \ --with-gd=/usr/local/src/gd-2.0.1 \ --with-freetype-dir=/usr/local/include/freetype2 \ --enable-gd-native-ttf \ >cfg.stdout 2>cfg.stderr Thanks in advance, Dominique Reply With Quote 01-14-2002,08:27 AM #2 saloon12yrd View Profile View Forum Posts Senior Member Join Date Jul 2001 Posts 172 fixed Got the solution from http://www.php.net/~rasmus/gd.html Reply With Quote 05-20-2002,07:48 PM #3 Anon View Profile View Forum Posts Senior Member Join Date Jun 2000 Posts 65,357 better solution for some reason you need to set --with-gd=... to one directory lower than where libgd.a is actually stored. in my case gd was installed like this: /usr/lib/libgd.a so i set up config like this: (to avoid confusion, this is the one

It does separate checks, looking for a lib/libgd.(a|so), as well as a check for include/gd.h The problem is (which I ran into), that the http://board.phpbuilder.com/showthread.php?7108706-gd-2-0-1-does-not-compile-libgd-a error message for either of these checks failing is: configure: error: Unable to find libgd.(a|so) anywhere under 'blah' In my case, it WAS finding libgd.a, but it was complaining because it couldn't find gd.h It took me lots of hair pulling to finally figure out (via scanning the configure scripts) that it was actually complaining about not seeing gd.h https://bugs.php.net/18479 where it expected it. The error message should EITHER specify which error occured (preferrable), or give a more generic error message of: "can't find libgd.a OR gd.h" Patches Add a PatchPull Requests Add a Pull RequestHistoryAllCommentsChangesGit/SVN commitsRelated reports [2002-07-22 21:11 UTC] sniper@php.net This bug has been fixed in CVS.
