Error Unable To Open Dns Cache File /var/lib/webalizer/dns_cache.db
26, 2002. alonso Kilo Poster Messages: 37 I would like to be able to have Hostnames and the country chart available in my webalizer stats. How do I enable DNS host lookups what would be the advantages/disadvantages Thanks alonso, Mar 26, 2002 #1 kark Guest There is something in webalizer.conf which you should change from no to yes. But I'm not sure what exactly. I know it is discussed in the FAQ, so I think the FAQ will help you out. Kark kark, Mar 27, 2002 #2 netman Guest Hi, Try to uncomment DNSCache and DNSChildren options in the webalizer.conf file. netman, Mar 27, 2002 #3 Traged1 Guru Messages: 1,085 All you need to do is go into your /etc/httpd/httpd.conf file, this may be in a different location depending on which operating system you have. Edit the httpd.conf file for your apache server, scroll down about half way and you will see a directive that says: HostNameLookups Off Change it to: HostNameLookups On Then restart apache. Traged1, Mar 28, 2002 #4 netman Guest Traged1, this solution will increase responce time from the apache server to client. Also it's absolutely not acceptable for servers with high number of http requests per second. netman, Mar 28, 2002 #5 kark Guest Hmm, great information. Question ... what number is usually set for the DNSChildren? Thanks, Kark kark, Mar 28, 2002 #6 netman Guest Maximum number depends on your server hardware configuration. In most cases you can leave default value. netman, Mar 28, 2002 #7 Traged1 Guru Messages: 1,085 Yes, it does drop perfomance slightly, Traged1, Mar 28, 2002 #8 kark Guest So I turned off HostnameLookup and uncommented DNSCache en Children but now suddenly I get lots of "unknown network" for Webalizer. How come? Kark kark, Mar 30, 2002 #9 kark Guest Hmm, ok, possible cause: Error: Unable to open DNS cache file dns_cache.db and /usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO)' First I'm going to bed ... I will look into this tomorrow. kark, Mar 30, 2002 #10 Chris Guest Did anybody ever figure this out? How to enable Webalizer country lookups without modifying the HostNameLookups in httpd.conf? I've noticed that /etc/webalizer.conf says it's a sample configuration file for version 1.3, but at the bottom of my Webalizer reports it says that it's version 2.01. Chris, Apr 6, 2002 #11 alonso Kilo Poster Messages: 37 Chris, I figured it out and it's working great!
