Posted 08 November 2006 - 02:28 AM Dual boot XP and Vista.C: XP has Windows Firewall, Defender and CA EZantivirusD: Vista has Windows Firewall, Defender, and Windows Live One CareIts kinda nice to security scan the OS that is not operating. This then gets all those files that are usually skipped by scanning on an operating OS. MAybe a good point for dual booting with same OS.Anyway, Vista is sinking fast, but maybe it has stabalized. However I am having problems with Defender on Vista, and no problem with it on XP. My resources are maxing out and think there may be a leak! Here is a bunch of stuff. Can anyone make sense of this? I will give anything you want, just ask.... In Vista, noticed the security center showed the firewall was turned on and said it was fine. However when opening Windows Firewall, it says the firewall is not operating and a firewall needs to be started. When starting the Windows Firewall it gets shut down. I think its Windows Live One Care (WLOC) shutting it down. (saw some security policies that probably make it so) Maybe because WLOC packs a dual firewall? I thought on my prior set up of single boot of XP, Windows Firewall and WLOC both ran to make the double firewall. Any thoughts? In Vista, noticed different things were being checked, making a hole, in the firewall but did not note them. ??? Unchecked them and something else would appear checked that I didn’t want. In Vista, noticed Defender was not booting up. Kept scratching my head as the option was set to auto start and to always show icon. Finally got an error of 0800106ba when I tried manually firing it up. Checked M$ and info said to run regsvr32 on some programs. One worked but got 0x80070005 on next prg of wuaueng.dll. Nexxt prgs got same error. Could not delete MSMpRes as possible fix because only 'Trusted Installer' is allowed to do it. (Or maybe the name was some dll cache). Anyway, I could not change the security but have not tried deleting it in safe mode. The info to do
