in my Event Viewer. The errors cycled through like this:The Open Procedure for service "BITS" in DLL http://freek.ws/2015/05/16/how-to-fix-perflib-error-1008/ "C:\Windows\System32\bitsperf.dll" failed The Open Procedure for service "ESENT" in DLL "C:\Windows\system32\esentprf.dll" https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/83712-rediculous-amount-of-perflib-event-1008-errors-in-event-log failed The Open Procedure for service "Lsa" in DLL "C:\Windows\System32\Secur32.dll" failed The Open Procedure for service "MSDTC" in DLL "C:\Windows\system32\msdtcuiu.DLL" failedThey all had Event ID 1008 and Perflib as source. The only difference was it's service- and DLL name.Apart from these errors appearing in my Event Viewer, event viewer I didn't notice anything strange with my computer; Everything was working like it should, so I had no idea what this could be causing and what (according to Windows) wasn't working like it should. After a quick Google search, I found out that the error itself isn't a big deal; It's just saying it can't collect performance data. That was event viewer error the easy part. Getting red of the errors is a whole different story. These errors got me technically stumped, as I've tried virtually every solution you can find on the web to no avail:- I ran a virus scan as well as a malware scan, without success. - I ran a chkdsk, without success. - I ran sfc /scannow, without success. - I ran lodctr /r, without success. - I ran Microsoft's SystemFileChecker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files, without success. - I removed and reinstalled the BITS, ESENT, LSA and MSDTC service without success. This was driving me nuts. Since the error itself wasn't really a big deal, I decided to disable the performance counters for the services that Windows was unable to collect performance data for. This can be achieved by using Extensible Counter List which can be downloaded here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/exctrlst/1.00.0.1/nt5/en-us/exctrlst_setup.exe After downloading and installing Extensible Counter List, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Resource Kit and run Exctrlst.exe as Administrator. Next, find the service(s) in the list that Windows reports it is unab

Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now On a Windows 2000 Server I have recently been seeing about two of these events per second in my Applications Event Log. Obviously, this makes it rather difficult to track any other errors that might appear. The Event is: Source: Perflib Category: None Type: Error Event ID: 1008 User: N/A Description: The Open Procedure for service "ASP.NET_2.0.50727" in DLL "C|WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_perf.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. Status code returned is data DWORD 0. Data: (Bytes) 0000: c7 04 07 80 (and a few ASCII characters) (Words) 0000: 800704c7 After researching several leads on TechNet, and other sites, I installed .NET 1.0 sp3, as this problem was supposedly resolved with the release of sp3. All this did was add a new version of the above event referencing "ASP.NET_1.0.3705.6060", which essentially doubled the number of these events I am receiving. Gee thanks Microsoft. Other things I read indicate that there may be some relationship with this error and NetBEUI not being installed on the NIC. NetBEUI is installed. However, one thing that recently changed on this server was the addition of a Gigabit NIC. This server hosts DC, DHCP, and Exhcange. I disabled the new NIC and set things back to the way they were, and the problem persisted. Next, I disabled the original NIC and assigned the static IP to the new NIC, installed NetBEUI, verified the selection to register in DNS, and verifyied the Metric is set to 1 for this device. This has made no difference regarding this Error. If any of you folks have fought this battle with any success I would very much appreciate being tossed a bone here. :-) This server will be replaced in 2010 and I really would like to keep it running until then if at all possible, what with it being a rather critical part of our network and all.
