However, when I go to Control Panel-System-Device Manager-Disk Drive-Disk C - I read "Device event viewer error 55 is working Properly"In addition, in Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Storage-Disk Management I read "Disk 0-Heathy".System has only Disk C, no disk in CD/DVD drive or USB.I do not know what to recommend my customer. Shall he replace the disk according to Event ID recommendation, or ignore it and rely on Healthy status? Please advice, or share your thoughts about this dilemma. This should provide information about hard drive's health and status according to the device itself. The S.M.A.R.T. data can sometimes be read in BIOS or in diagnostic utilites that may come with the PC (if it's Dell for example the built-in diagonostic tools are capable of reading S.M.A.R.T. data). You may also use a freeware utility for Windows called Speedfan to access the information. If the drive is failing according to S.M.A.R.T. then it's t

one server, these days that's no longer the case. New computers are added to the network with the understanding that they will be taken care of by the admins. Even with 5 minutes per server (to check the logs and other parameters), it may take an hour to make sure that everything is ok and no "red lights" are blinking on any of the servers. Yet, what admin has an hour daily to ensure "due care"? In real life, the admins will check the servers only http://www.eventid.net/ if something appears to be wrong with them. In an ideal world, the admins should be notified every time a errors or warnings are recorded in the server logs. Various monitoring solutions are available on the market, some quite complex, but many are trying to do too much or are reporting the wrong things. A PDF file with pie charts showing the distribution of events per server is pretty much useless. The cost of such solution may also become an issue even for bigger companies and add yet another burden to the administrators' shoulders. read more..... Now How do I identify a disk from an error in the Event Viewer. For example: \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 \Device\Scsi\symmpi1 The server has about three external drives and some scsi internal drives. Everest might do it as well. Personally I just use the disk manager to do all this. 0 Anaheim OP Othni Dec 3, 2008 at 10:50 UTC The Disk Manager does not relates the \Dev\Harddisk0\DR0 to the drive or partition. This is the problem. If you have several external disks and several scsi disks in different controllers, it would be a problem to relate this "path" to the actual drive. 0 Datil OP DigitalBlacksmith Dec 3, 2008 at 11:11 UTC Whatever you say, but I have been doing it this way for the past several years. When there is an error in Event Viewer, if I dont know offhand which array the error came from I check my disk management utility to find out. It will tell me which channel the device is on and which partitions lie on that device. Then I go to that scsi card to locate the disk in trouble. The more per

Recently, I get a lot of the following errors. Event ID: 7Type: ErrorSource: disk"The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block." (Most prevalent) Event ID: 11Type: ErrorSource: disk"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\D." Event ID: 51Source: diskType: Warning"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a paging operation." These events look unsettling. They look like omens of impending doom. Butthe question is: Exactly which hard disk or partition is affected? Times and again I run CHKDSK on all my partitions with /F /R /V switches but no serious error is found. Then why do I keep getting these errors? I spent a lot of time reading articles on MicrosoftHelp and Supportas well as other websites but to no avail. I still do not understand what does "Harddisk2" means and what does "\D" means. Can anyone please tell me? Thanks in advance. jimsturtz Members Profile Send Private Message Find Members Posts Add to Buddy List Newbie Joined: 21 February 2010 Status: Offline Points: 2 Post Options Post Reply Quotejimsturtz Report Post Thanks(0) QuoteReply Posted: 21 February 2010 at 11:30pm did you ever figure it out. i am having a similar issue. thanks. jim redhawk Members Profile Send Private Message Find Members Posts Add to Buddy List Moderator Group Joined: 14 September 2005 Location: United Kingdom Status: Offline Points: 1362 Post Options Post Reply Quoteredhawk Report Post Thanks(0) QuoteReply Posted: 22 February 2010 at 12:43am This post may have some relevance to your problem.
