problems. The event-logging service controls whether events are tracked on Windows 2000 systems. When this service is started, you can track user actions and system resource usage events with the following event logs: Application Log Records events logged by applications, such as the failure of MS SQL to access a database. Directory Service Records events logged by Active Directory and its related services. DNS Server Records DNS queries, responses, and other DNS activities. Event Viewer tracks (in order of importance) error events, warning events, and informational events. The logs in Event Viewer provide an audited record of all Windows services and processes. The Event Viewer is enabled by default in Windows. There are three types of logs in the Event Viewer: System, Security, and Application. For each type of log, you can set properties to filter the events to be viewed, designate the number of entries to view, specify how long to save entries, and specify whether to automatically overwrite existing events when the log becomes full. IIS events are logged in the Application log.Opening the Event ViewerYou can open Event Viewer in any one of the following ways:From the Start menu, click Run. In t

Because for every Windows crash there’s a way to lick the problem without dialing assistance. Windows glitches, errors and crashes are a pain in the rear. More often a reboot (or a smack on the sides) is a quick fix. It gets the work done but it still leaves the puzzler out there – why did the system crash in the first place? To remove the vulnerability (we know that Window’s has tons of them!) and troubleshoot errors, it’s necessary to diagnose and cure. This is where the Event Viewer makes a worthy entrance.
