Event Log Service Access Denied
between two workgroup Win7 PCs Windows 7 IT Pro > Windows 7 Networking Question 0 Sign in to vote It's impossible to even understand how unbelievably pissed off I am right now. You know, when you tell a network administrator, that "access is denied" to his own home PCs? Hmm? Do you? You can't even imagine. I DO NOT take http://www.gfi.com/support/products/Error-Error-5-Access-is-Denied-when-attempting-to-connect-to-remote-Event-Viewer kindly to my computers giving me an error saying "Access denied". With that said, let's continue. "SERVICES". "ACTIONS -> CONNECT TO ANOTHER COMPUTER" Enter computer name. OK. "ERROR 5: ACCESS IS DENIED" This is not difficult. This is standard functionality in Windows. All admin accounts. Forced login via "net use" before connecting. Stored credentials. Same passwords and logins on each. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/54b59faa-b463-48bf-8c33-b26ebd9ebf92/cannot-access-remote-computer-management-mmc-between-two-workgroup-win7-pcs?forum=w7itpronetworking Everything. Exactly. As. It. Should. Be. 3 computers, all cannot manage each other. 2 Win7 Pro x64 and 1 Win7 Home x64. Comp1 -> Comp3 [FAIL] Comp3 -> Comp1 [FAIL] Comp2 -> Comp3 [FAIL] Comp3 -> Comp2 [FAIL] Comp2 -> Comp1 [FAIL] Comp1 -> Comp2 [FAIL] All firewalls are disabled. No matter what, if I do it from Computer Management, or from Services, or from Regedit... EVERY SINGLE ONE fails. I simply CANNOT ACCESS these remote services and it's pissing me right off. And above all, how the hell has nobody on the internet ever even tried using this functionality before? How? Please tell me. There are zero relevant google results for this situation. Not a single person using Windows 7 has ever had this issue before. Has nobody even tried? Does nobody use "Connect to another computer"? If you read this post, at LEAST have the decency to reply. Unless you're from Microsoft, and are going to regurgitate some "how to open computer management" page and mark it as the answer, in standard form... all too use

Both computers are running Windows 8.1 Pro and are in a private (private as in Windows) network. RDP works between them, but is sometimes unreliable and I don't have physical access to the machine to restart it. I started with "Error 5: Access Denied". To allow access I have allowed Remote Service Management for private networks in firewall settings, as described here. I have also set the access is denied LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy to 1 as described here. While I can run now sc \\computer stop TermService, I would like to use the Management Console to do it. But when I try to connect the Services snap-in to the remote machine I'm getting Error 1726: Remote Procedure Call failed. Any hints what else has to be done to enable remote service administration? windows-service windows-8.1 workgroup rpc share|improve this question asked Feb 24 '15 at 18:59 piotrek 92 Remote registry service is probably the missing component here. Start it and make sure it's allowed through the firewall. –HopelessN00b Feb 24 '15 at 19:22 I have enabled and started the Remote registry service and disabled the Windows firewall, but it still fails with "Remote Procedure Call failed". –piotrek Feb 24 '15 at 22:26 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote Without knowing the specific answer, the steps I would take to troubleshoot it would be do create an any/any exception for your host in the Private profile of the Windows firewall of the host you're trying to manage, just to determine whether or not it's a firewall issue or whether there's something else at play. If it works when you do that, you can use Message Analyser to determine which ports you're accessing on the remote host (I suspect at the very least you'll need to allow 135 for RPC). You can then remove the exception for your management host and create
Management via MMC "Error 5: Access Denied" Computer Management via MMC "Error 5: Access Denied" New 03 Jul 2007 #1 Carl Farrington Guest Computer Management via MMC "Error 5: Access Denied" I am logged-on to the Windows 2000 Server domain controller as the domain Administrator, and I want to view the Event Log, and Stop/Restart some services on a Vista Business machine which a member computer in the domain. I am receiving "Error 5: Access Denied" messages, although on one occasion I was apparently able to stop/start a service, the problem returned immediately after, following a message telling me that there was an issue communicating with the Plug and Play manager or some such. Is this normal? I tend to work this way for temporarily disabling the Windows Firewall amongst other things if the firewall configuration is wrong for me to remote-control the machine using NetSupport. In an XP environment, this facility is still available with the firewall enabled. I guess that's not so for Vista? Even so, I have had the user add 'remote service control', 'file and printer sharing', and some other things to his exception list. Can anybody help please? New 03 Jul 2007 #2 Jesper Guest RE: Computer Management via MMC "Error 5: Access Denied" Can you get us a complete error message? This is not normal. When using domain accounts that are local admins you should be getting a full admin token over the network. It is only with local accounts that you get a filtered token. FWIW, Windows 2000 is out of support. It was not tested with Windows Vista and it could very well be that something in the interaction is causing this problem. Do you have a Windows Server 2003 server you can connect from instead? --- Your question may already be answered in Win
