Event Viewer Cannot Open The Event Log Or Custom View Access Is Denied 5
Greetings techspot, Ive been reading techspot for a while now and just joined cause now I have a problem maybe all you tech heads out there can solve. The first problem is that i do NOT have a windows disk on me, im on vacation and internet is my only resource. Second, After a long bout with 100's of virus's i believe my event log service access denied pc is now clean, but my RPC is not able to start. If i bring up Services.msc it will come up as normal but if i try to activate anything it says "Error 5: access denied". Ive done some research and came up with a few unsuccessful solutions. First was editing it through regedit and trying to turn it on in the registry, also tried associating it with my hardware profile in the registry as well, following microsofts instructions (sorry cant post link) and instructions left by others with my problem online. All are unsuccessful. Ive read something about altering my policies through gpedit.msc or secpol.msc though i have very limited experience with policies and modifying them. I have attempted to reload the default policies but to no avail. Since my RPC is not on, everything on my pc is limited to performing less than safemode. Ive searched everything everywhere using every search engine, and no help... Please someone help me. Sorry for the massive wall of text. [Problem 1] RPC not running [Problem 2] Cannot modify Services in services.msc [Problem 3] Cannot boot into safemode

I am logged-on to the Windows 2000 Server domain controller as the domain Administrator, and I want to view the Event Log, and Stop/Restart some services on http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/computer-management-via-mmc-error-5-access-denied.3147503/ a Vista Business machine which a member computer in the domain. I am receiving "Error 5: Access Denied" messages, although on one occasion I was apparently able to stop/start a service, the problem returned immediately after, following a message telling me that there was an issue communicating with the Plug and Play manager or some such. Is this normal? I tend to work this way for event viewer temporarily disabling the Windows Firewall amongst other things if the firewall configuration is wrong for me to remote-control the machine using NetSupport. In an XP environment, this facility is still available with the firewall enabled. I guess that's not so for Vista? Even so, I have had the user add 'remote service control', 'file and printer sharing', and some other things to his exception list. Can access is denied anybody help please? I don't like Vista Carl Farrington, Jul 3, 2007 #1 Advertisements Guest Guest Can you get us a complete error message? This is not normal. When using domain accounts that are local admins you should be getting a full admin token over the network. It is only with local accounts that you get a filtered token. FWIW, Windows 2000 is out of support. It was not tested with Windows Vista and it could very well be that something in the interaction is causing this problem. Do you have a Windows Server 2003 server you can connect from instead? --- Your question may already be answered in Windows Vista Security: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0470101555?ie=UTF8&tag=protectyourwi-20 "Carl Farrington" wrote: > I am logged-on to the Windows 2000 Server domain controller as the domain > Administrator, and I want to view the Event Log, and Stop/Restart some > services on a Vista Business machine which a member computer in the domain. > > I am receiving "Error 5: Access Denied" messages, although on one occasion I > was apparently able to stop/start a service, the problem returned > immediately after, following a message telling me that there was an i
