Evolution Error Connection Refused
12:51 PMHi ! I've installed Ubuntu yesterday and I still experience some problems I can't solve by myself ... doesn't work. I'm actually on the Evolution Mail Configuration Problem ... I've followed the tutorial on how to configure it but i've a problem that is "Host lookup failed:smtp.live.com: Name or service not known" when I click on Send/Receive ... Erf .... Any clue ? Thanks ! dnairbApril 24th, 2011, 01:10 PMIIRC you need to use: smtp.live.com:25 or, if the above doesn't work: smtp.live.com:587 XalltarApril 24th, 2011, 03:01 PMErf ... Just tried it ... and still the same problem .... dnairbApril 24th, 2011, 04:10 PMIs the same error reported? XalltarApril 24th, 2011, 04:16 PMMh ... that's odd. At first yeah but I then rebooted and now it doesn't make this error again. It says now : "Could not connect to smtp.live.com : connection refused" and asks for a password for the pop3 server on my mail adress .... Well i can't send anything now due to the connection refused for smtp server ... dnairbApril 24th, 2011, 04:18 PMDid you enter your password? (for your mail account) What was the tutorial you followed? And how did you set your configuration? XalltarApril 24th, 2011, 04:26 PMYep, i've followed indications on the web about configuring that. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsingGmailWithEvolution adapted to hotmail ... #54624: Connection refused message randomly appears. 2 Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone evolution (Ubuntu) Edit Invalid Undecided Unassigned Edit Also affects project (?) Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description Binary package hint: evolution Ubuntu 64 bit Intrepid Ibex 8.10. Evolution 2.24.2 I have 8 pop mail accounts in Evolution. Every time I start Evolution there is a yellow triangle "error while receiving mail" message at the bottom. See attached image: "Evolution-error-at-the-bottom.png" When I click on yellow triangle to see details of error the error window popup (my translation: "Error while receiving mail", https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1738049.html "Could not connect to mail.zlat.net: Connection refused"). See attached image: "error_receiving_mail.png" The fact is that I have 8 pop accounts with 6 different pop mail servers and the error above is not always for the same server. Sometimes there is another server mentioned in error, like mail.program-edix.com or any other I use. I have also made PrintScreen of terminal window running Evolution after I have https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308519 pressed "Send/Receive" button in Evolution several times. See attached image: "terminal-window.png". And the most important thing is that I always receive all my email. This error seem to me as fake error, related to "client/server" response time limit mismatch or something like that. All this 6 pop mail servers are mine mail servers, so I can see what is happening on the server side. All pop communications end correct and there is never no error on server side. On my notebook Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy 32 bit with Evolution 2.22.3.1, there is never any error reported for the same pop mail accounts. And also before, on WinXP, I was using Thunderbird mail client and there was never any error reported while receiving mail. Is this known bug? I was googling a lot but didn't find exactly the same problem. Maybe because it is not real problem - I receive all my email :). Anyway I decided to post this bug as it annoys me because I can't ever really know if there is any problem with any of my pop servers or not. Evolution I could sent and receive email. I used MSN. What I did on Thursday, I upgraded to Jaunty What broke. Using evolution to receive mail I get the following error messages. Error while Fetching Mail Could not connect to 127.0.0.1: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+question/68498 Connection Refused What I can do and have done. Ping 127.0.0.1 successfully Access the web with firefox What I suspect My password is getting munched. I went into evolution's preferences and turned off the remember password button, hoping to get to manually input my password. Evolution produced the failure message without giving me a chance to enter my password. Now I am less inclined to think it is my password. What I would like evolution error Could someone tell me how to get more information on what evolution is complaining about? I am sure there is a more detailed trace of what is going on somewhere. I would like to be able to understand what is going on. To fix my ability to receive email. More information- The command "sudo apt-get install hotway hotsmtp" doesn't work for me. Hotway is not available. My /etc/inetd.conf file was modified to comment out the evolution error connection following line: pop3 stream tcp nowait nobody /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/bin/hotwayd I put it back. Entered "sudo /etc/init.d/inetutils-inetd restart", which was successful. Did not fix the problem. I cannot telnet to 127.0.0.1, says connection refused. Does Juanty kill hotwayd? Is there a right way to configure evolution to access mail from msn? Thanks very much Larry. For whatever it is worth, I installed hotway. I rebooted. Evolution works, I can read my mail. I think when I cleaned up the old files that were not needed anymore hotway got erased, or something. SlugiusRex (slugiusrex) said on 2009-04-26: #2 Alas I'm suffering from this same situation. Evolution was working just fine immediately before the upgrade process. Evolution is still working great after going to 9.04 except for when I try to send/receive. Hotmail looks good when I access it directly from the website. I have the exact same symptoms and have tried the exact same remedies with no success. For example: + I rechecked all my settings as prescribed by the UBUNTU forum : http://www.ubuntugeek.com/send-and-receive-your-hotma
