Aside from that, what are you expecting ~ to expand to when root runs the script? –steeldriver May 13 '15 at 0:01 @BobcatJoe So simply place update.sh into your /etc/cron.daily directory –solsTiCe May 13 '15 at 22:59 Thanks, I see my issue was that I was using ~ instead of the full path. I assume the ~ is the current user and cron runs as root? –BobcatJoe May 13 '15 at 23:13 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted Files in cron.{daily,hourly,weekly...} are not in the crontab format, but scripts or executables that are directly executed. Files in cron.d are in the crontab format. Either: Move mc2xmlUpdate to /etc/cron.d, or Copy/link /home/username/mc2xml/update.sh to cron.daily Also, your PATH spe

Thanks Pradeep That seems like a pretty clear message - something about your 2 systems is so different that programs compiled on one aren't able to run on the other. I can't know for sure the cause, but here are a couple of ideas: - Maybe one of the machines is 64-bit and the other is 32-bit. - Maybe you compiled with very hardware specific compiler optimization flags and the other machine can't support the optimized code. - Perhaps the proprietary BSD variant OS just won't allow for the executable file format produced by free BSD. ran test.exe on the command line, it gave me: Exec format error. Wrong Architecture. how should I fix this error? thanks sjang May 21, 2008 at 6:06pm UTC bnbertha (401) It's difficult to say without seeing the contents of test.cpp. However assuming your .cpp is C++ code, you're compiling with a C compiler, try using g++ instead of gcc. May 21, 2008 at 7:00pm UTC sjang (3) Hi test.cpp is a c++ program. I tried g++ -c -o test.exe test.cpp but still got the same error. Any ideas? thanks sjang May 21, 2008 at 8:17pm UTC Duoas (10453) The problem might be because you keep using the -c flag. You can't directly execute an .obj file, no matter what its extension. g++ test.cpp -o test If that doesn't fix it, then exactly what OS, hardware, and version of GCC are you using? May 21, 2008 at 8:31pm UTC sjang (3) Hi getting rid of that -c fixed it. Thanks for helps! sjang Topic archived. No new replies allowed.
