Exec Format Error Modprobe
assuming your .cpp is C++ code, you're compiling with a C compiler, try using g++ instead of gcc. May 21, 2008 at 7:00pm UTC sjang (3) Hi test.cpp is a c++ program. I tried g++ -c -o test.exe test.cpp exec format error cygwin but still got the same error. Any ideas? thanks sjang May 21, 2008 at 8:17pm UTC Duoas (10453) The problem might be because you keep using the -c flag. You can't directly execute an .obj file, no matter what its extension. g++ test.cpp -o test If that doesn't fix it, then exactly what OS, hardware, and version of GCC are you using? May 21, 2008 at 8:31pm UTC sjang (3) Hi getting rid of that -c fixed it. Thanks for helps! sjang Topic archived. No new replies allowed. Thanks Pradeep That seems like a pretty clear message - something about your 2 systems is so different that programs compiled on one aren't able to run on the other. I can't know for sure the cause, but here are a couple of ideas: - Maybe one of the machines is 64-bit and the other is 32-bit. - Maybe you compiled with very hardware specific compiler optimization flags and the other machine can't support the optimized code. - Perhaps the proprietary BSD variant OS just won't allow for the executable file format produced by free BSD. For instance, when I tried to run eclipse standard through the launcher, nothing happened. I tried to double click the executable, and nothing happened. When exec format error I attempted to run it the terminal, I got: ~ ❯❯❯ '/home/ecc/Apps/eclipseStandard/eclipse' zsh: exec format error: /home/joaolopes/Apps/eclipseStandard/eclipse This behavior is occuring to other apps, like Sublime Text 2 and other versions of eclipse. Do you have any ideia what's going on? Edit to add: I'm using zsh and the file has the necessary perms. eclipse executable share|improve this question edited Apr 17 '14 at 13:25 Braiam 39k1693154 asked Apr 14 '14 at 16:14 ecc 1701210 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted Run uname -m and check if the programs you're trying to execute have the appropriate architecture. ie., 32 vs 64 bit. share|improve this answer answered Apr 14 '14 at 16:33 Joao Goncalves 16614 1 Seems like you're correct. I didn't notice I was running x86. Eclipse Standard x86 runs fine. Observed on zsh 5.0.2. Note that bash, ksh,
