See the link to Error code 0x80070005 for a list of reasons why a process may fail with this error. x 44 Anonymous I got this event after upgrading to Windows XP SP3. I also got this event after downloading and installing all the high priority Windows XP SP2 updates. I was able to fix the issue by doing one or http://www.eventid.net/display-eventid-1015-source-MsiInstaller-eventno-1591-phase-1.htm both of the following (not sure which fixed it): Method 1: 1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK. 2. Locate and right-click the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties. 3. Select Automatic startup type. 4. Restart computer. Method 2 (i think it was this method that fixed it): 1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK. 2. Locate and right-click the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service, and then click Properties. 3. On the Log On tab, click Local System account, click Apply, and then click OK. 4. Restart computer. (this step was added by me) See also ME883821. x 38 Vince I had these same issues and tried the fixes mentioned here and none of them worked. I eventually found a program that helped with this problem. It is called Dial-a-fix. See the link below to download it. I ran several diagnostics but I think the one that solved the problem was the Repair Permissions tool. Things are back to normal now. x 61 Sven Berend In my case, going under "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\AppInit_DLLs" and removing any entries for "dll" files solved the problem

Solved Event ID 1015 MsiInstaller Failed to connect to server Posted on 2008-06-02 Installation Windows Server 2003 1 Verified Solution 6 Comments 24,117 Views Last Modified: 2013-11-14 After completed a windows 2003 SP2 update, we started getting DCOM and MsiInstaller messages. The DCOM failed to connect issue turned out to be related to the MSI installer not having the relevant security permissions, this was fixed by adding NETWORK SERVICE into the DCOM. The application errors for MsiInstaller are still continuing: Event Type: Warning Event Source: MsiInstaller Event Category: None Event ID: 1015 Date: 3/06/2008 Time: 1:53:52 PM User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE Computer: WPSRSWEB01VM Description: Failed to connect to server.
