The latest patch introduced a bug for me, and perhaps others, where during installation when the launcher tries to download and install the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable it fails as the launcher doesn't have admin privileges. Elevating the Launcher to Admin solved the problem, but something else I assumed would solve it didn't: manually installing the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable! You guys are absolutely correct that it's ridiculous the launcher will install the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable no matter if it is already installed or not. This is kinda silly and yet another annoying bug that w
continue to make it available because the information is still valuable, but some steps may vary due to product vcredist 2005 changes. When attempting to install Tableau Desktop, you may see

an "Error creating process" error message like below: This message typically displays because the Windows operating system

(OS) has a problem with the installation process. In this case, the OS is unable to extract specific files it needs from the Tableau Desktop installation file https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?183751-Why-does-the-Updater-insist-on-installing-MS-Visual-C-2005/page2 (tableau.exe) to properly install. To resolve this issue, you can do one of the following tasks: Create a new temporary folder on the C:\ drive. For example, create a folder called Temp that has the following path: C:\Temp. Edit the TEMP and TMP environment variables to point to this new folder, then install Tableau Desktop again. http://kb.tableau.com/articles/knowledgebase/error-resolving-error-creating-process For instructions on how to change the temporary folder, refer to the following MSDN blog post: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2006/01/15/513134.aspx. Alternatively, you can create a temporary folder on your machine and copy tableau.exe to this new folder. Then extract the installation files from tableau.exe to this temporary folder so that you can properly install Tableau Desktop. For example, open the Command Prompt, change directories to the temporary folder you created above and type the command tableau.exe "[path to the temporary folder]"/c. For example, tableau.exe “C:\Users\jsmith\Desktop\TableauDesktopTemp”/c. After the files are extracted, you can double-click the file with the “.msi” extension to install Tableau Desktop. Note: In this article, “tableau.exe” is a placeholder name for the actual name of your installation file. For example, a Tableau Desktop installation file may look like “tableau-setup-std-tableau-7.0.11.0724.1830.exe”. Card: BFG 7600GT 256MB Ram: 2.5GB DDR 400 Hard Drive: WD Raptor 40GB OS: Windows XP Pro 32bit SP/2 Problem: I bought the game yesterday morning and installed it right away. Installation went fine, https://forums.2k.com/archive/index.php/t-6327.html auto updater went fine, and then when I tried to actually start the https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a69257e2-bc01-4f61-825e-c5a75cf790e5/sidebyside-configuration-is-incorrect-from-winpe-20?forum=embeddedwindowsmisc game, I immediately get this message: ---------------------------------------- D:\Program Files\2K Games\Bioshock\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. ---------------------------------------- I contacted tech support over the phone, but the only thing they were able to suggest was to try redownloading .netframeworks. I've since uninstalled failed to / reinstalled .netframeworks 1.1 and 2 countless times, I have uninstalled / reinstalled the game about 5 times now, and have tried disabling programs during startup etc. I run several other games fine with no issues (battle field 2, civ 4 beyond the sword, fear, etc). On searching the internet, that error comes up typically when programming code is made wrong. Something about side by side calculations failed to install or something. Any help would be appreciated. I really don't want to format my hard drive, but I'm pretty close to doing that. dustinb08-22-2007, 07:05 PMWell I got it fixed thanks to a few other posts. Here's what I had to do. Download this file: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.aspx?na=22&p=1&SrcDisplayLang=en&SrcCategoryId=&SrcFamilyId=&u=%2fdownloads%2fdetails.aspx%3fFamilyID%3d32bc1be e-a3f9-4c13-9c99-220b62a191ee%26DisplayLang%3den After I ran the file, I got an error that it couldn't find the msi, so I did this: Killerpotato: The vcredist.msi file is located within the vcredist_x86.exe file. I suspect it's having problems extracting it to your temporary directory. In any case, you can use WinRAR (rarlabs.com) to extract the files from vcredist_x86.exe to get to the msi file. To do this, install winrar if you don't have it, right click on the vcredist_x86.exe exe and select "Extract Here". You'll get a new file called VCREDI~3.EXE. Right click on THAT file and hit "Extract Here" again. You'll get two files called vcredis1.cab and vcredist.msi, which you should be able to use directly. I then ran vcredist.msi, and when it asked where the file was, I told it the folder that I had extracted it to through win rar. This did not fix the game, but then, I tried downloading this file: http://www.m

So here is the problem I am currently having. I am trying to find another way to wipe our hard drives that is a much faster, easier way. Right now, all drives are encrypted with Sophos Safeguard 5.50. Sophos offers a utility, BEInvVol.exe (http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/108268.html) that deletes the encryption keys off of the drive. Since these keys are not backed up, if they are deleted, the information on the drive can never be recovered. Essentially, it is as good as wiping the drive. Only it'll work much faster than using a wipe utility. Now, when I boot into our WinPE 2.0 disk, and I try to run BEInvVol.exe, I get this error "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail." I've done a lot of searching around, and have decyphered this cryptic message: I am missing certain libraries that this program needs to run. Specifically, when looking at the exe's hex code, and when running the program using sxstrace, I see I need the library for "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)" which can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5638 Now, here it the problem: I am running WinPE. I can't run this installer in that environment. When I try and run vcredist_x86.exe (the installer for C++ 2005 SP1) after WinPE 2.0 has booted up, I get this error "Error creating process >
