When running a dfsrdiag backlog query, a user is getting ‘[ERROR] Failed to connect to WMI services on computer: [FQDN]’. Does the user need admin or some lesser permission on the server being queried, some permissions for the replication group, or something else?” By default, to check backlogs using Dfsrdiag you must be part of the local Administrators group on the servers being queried. However, you can also delegate permissions to a user to query servers by using the following procedure: 1. Add the user account to the Distributed COM Users local group on each machine by running the following command: Net localgroup "Distributed COM Users" /add domainusername 2. Add the user accoun

Solved DFS issues Posted on 2009-01-08 Security Windows Server 2003 1 Verified Solution 8 Comments 2,144 Views Last Modified: 2013-11-29 Hello, I am having some DFS issues and have narrowed it down to a windows firewall https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/filecab/2006/07/06/delegating-permissions-to-run-dfsrdiag/ issue. When the firewall is on I cannot connect to the share and FRS does not work between two different shares. When the firewall is off, I can connect to the share and FRS works. My question is, what needs to be added to windows firewall in order for DFS and FRS to work properly. I have added the following: TCP - 137, 139, 389, 135, 445 UDP - https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/24035238/DFS-issues.html 137, 138, 389, 445 File and Printer Sharing But still no success. What else needs to be done? Thanks in advance. 0 Question by:BRI-Consulting Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution byBRI-Consulting I followed this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727063.aspx Specifically: Next, navigate to this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ Go to Solution 8 Comments LVL 13 Overall: Level 13 Windows Server 2003 6 Security 1 Message Active today Expert Comment by:RobinHuman2009-01-08 Take a look at the following article re: dfsrdiag (this would suggest that you need to allow this .exe through the firewall as well) http://www.experts-exchange.com/Security/IDS/Q_22746536.html 0 Message Author Comment by:BRI-Consulting2009-01-08 I allowed the dfsrdiag.exe and still no luck. I also did: dfsrdiag StaticRPC /port:nnnnn /Member:Branch01.sales.contoso.com and the operation failed. your DFS-R management pack in SCOM about the DFS-R service inability to register itself with WMI and it can impact the replication. Exact error message is http://techibee.com/sysadmins/fix-dfs-replication-failed-to-register-itself-with-wmi/1353 given below. DFS Replication failed to register itself with WMI. Replication https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/394086-dfs-not-replicating-all-files-and-folders-error-message is disabled until WMI registration succeeds. To resolve this issue, you may need to re-register DFS-R related DLL and other files that belongs to WMI. Before going there, just restart your DFS-R service once to confirm that your problem is not transient and happening all time. You will failed to notice a error message with 6104 event ID in DFS Replication event log after you restart the service. If this event is present, then problem is live and you should fix it. The following solution worked for me. CD %windir%\system32\wbem mofcomp dfsrprov.mof mofcomp dfsrprov.mfl wmiprvse /regserver net stop dfsr net start dfsr All it does is re-register the WMI related to wmi services files of DFS-R. If you still notice issues, you may want to re-register everything under WBEM folder. This was suggested in Technet Forum. CD %windir%\system32\wbem For /f %s in (‘dir /b /s *.dll') do regsvr32 /s %s for /f %s in (‘dir /b *.mof *.mfl') do mofcomp %s wmiprvse /regserver net stop dfsr net start dfsr if the problem is still not resolved, try rebooting the DFS-R server. Sometimes, the compilation of MOF files might fail with below errors while performing above steps. In such cases, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841619 might help you. One set keeps having issues. It populates some of the folders in this set, but the others stay empty. I dont get it! I have deleted the set, deleted the share, the dfsprivate folders on both sides, renamed the set and share to something different from before. Done this several times in different ways. Same result. When i run the DFSRDIAG Backlog command I get the error below every time. (errors in bold) Increased staging size 40gb & conflict size 4gb so should not be backlogged. Help please!
