This may indicate a driver issue or a directx installation issue. Could also indicate you have some sort of software preventing monitor enumeration (maybe something like remote/screen sharing/kvm stuff?). Can you provide more information on your OS, SP level, and dxdiag information on display adapters and monitors? #2 hoetz View Profile View Posts 31 Oct, 2012 @ 5:23am I have the same issue running it on a brand new Windows 8 tablet pc (Samsung ATIV). Failed To Create D3d Device Nvidia
Join Date: Mar 2016 Reputation: 0 Posts: 4 failed creating window/d3d... when launching big picture mode Hey guys, I am attempting to set failed to create d3d device left 4 dead 2 up in home streaming (Im going in for neck/spine surgery and will not be able to sit at my gaming rig for a while ), I have a AMD FX 8500, 12gb ram, and NVidia gtx 750 ti http://steamcommunity.com/groups/bigpicture/discussions/1/882961406956871092/ running Win7, I have enabled in home streaming, set up hardware encoding etc. Games play great on the desktop, and I can see installed games on my laptop, but when I attempt to stream then they eith just show a black screen or the screen goes black for a second and then closes back to my desktop. I have looked around a lot and found out that you need to enable Big Picture mode. Whenever I enable http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3301831 big picture mode Steam closes and I get the error "Failed creating window/d3d surface for Bid Picture" I have searched and it looks like this is typically an issue with DirectX or a video card driver. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest DirectX update and I am currently running 11 (sorry not sure the exact version but it is the latest and greatest) I have tried 4 different video driver version, running DDU each time rebooting as needed and suggested. I have fully updated Windows 7 I believe Big Picture mode is required for streaming, but if there is a way to stream without Big Picture more I would be all ears. Im at my wits end and need to get this working as quickly as possible, any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Easiest way to clean STEAM, and not loose all your games and data is this way. Close STEAM. From STEAM FAQ Windows XP/Vista/7/8 Completely exit the Steam client. Open the run dialogue by pressing windows key + r (you can also navigate here from the start menu by typing run). Ty

The game still worked. Later, I tried to play it again but every time I clicked "Play" the error occured "Unable to Create Direct3d device." I verified Steam cache, reinstaled the game, updated my graphic card software, and DirectX. I also tried to do it using compability mode, and different resolution settings. Nothing worked. I have DirectX 11, Windows 7 64-bit, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 3,06 GHz, 4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series Card.
