to the top Heimdall Error Protocol initialisation failed! on Ubuntu up vote 3 down vote favorite 1 I want to install CyanogenMod on my Samsung Galaxy S5. I'd downloaded the version and did the excact steps from the wiki. But when I try to flash with Heimdall I get this error: Ubuntu-Laptop:~/Downloads/cm-12.1-20151007-SNAPSHOT-YOG4PAO333-klte$ sudo heimdall flash --RECOVERY boot.img --no-reboot Heimdall v1.4.1 Copyright (c) 2010-2014 Benjamin Dobell, Glass Echidna http://www.glassechidna.com.au/ This software is provided heimdall protocol initialisation failed windows free of charge. The problem for me was that udev was reserving the phone as a modem when I plugged it in. If you run dmesg and see a line that says "This device cannot do calls on its own. It is not a modem.", then this could work for you. As root, create a file named /etc/udev/rules.d/79-samsung.rules with the following content: ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", ENV{ID_MM_DEVICE_IGNORE}="1" Then restart udev with "sudo service udev restart", and unplug/replug the device, and you can try to install again. If that doesn't work or if it's a different problem, you can edit your question to add the output of these commands: heimdall detect --verbose --usb-log-level debug sudo heimdall print-pit --verbose --no-reboot share|im

I was trying to install CWM on my Galaxy Ace 2x http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/130392/heimdall-error-protocol-initialisation-failed-on-ubuntu using Odin, when something went horribly wrong. Now, my device is bricked, and gives me the following error message when I try to turn it on: "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I tried to fix my device through Kies, but my phone wasn't connecting to it. I don't have access to a PC https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/Heimdall/issues/190 anymore and am now using a Mac (OS X 10.9.1). I discovered Heimdall, and how it is like a Mac alternative to Odin. I was thrilled that I was finally able to flash my stock ROM, and have my phone back to normal once more. However, whenever I try to download my device's PIT file, I get the following error message: Heimdall v1.4.0 Copyright (c) 2010-2013, Benjamin Dobell, Glass Echidna http://www.glassechidna.com.au/ This software is provided free of charge. I desperately need assistance. :( Thank you, Eli. ghost commented Jan 26, 2014 Hi, I'm having also trouble with heimdall ..to investigate more information you can try this: turn off your device, then go into download mode via jig or key combo and try to debug the procedure with: heimdall print-pit --usb-log-level debug elisays commented Jan 26, 20

I'm a bit of a hacker and like the hardware I own to do as it's told. Unfortunately most of the software available for flashing a Samsung phone (Odin) is for Windows. There's no reason that a Mac can't do these things but most of the hackers out there run Windows or Linux so that's what the software is made for. However, there are some Geniuses out there who wrote a multi-platform piece of software called, Heimdall. Unfortunately, like many, I've had problems with this piece of software and I wrote it off as yet-another-piece-of-multi-platform-software-that-doesn't-actually-work. Specifically, the issue I was having was: $ heimdall flash -kernel zImage Heimdall v1.3.1, Copyright © 2010-2011, Benjamin Dobell, Glass Echidna http://www.glassechidna.com.au This software is provided free of charge. Copying and redistribution is encouraged. If you appreciate this software and you would like to support future development please consider donating: http:/www.glassechidna.com.au/donate Initialising connection... Detecting device... Claiming interface... ERROR: Claiming interface failed! $ Frustrating. One day, however, I'd had enough. I was determined to get to the bottom of the problem and get it working. Luckily, it wasn't that hard. As a Samsung device owner I had, of course, installed their awful piece of software, Kies. This useless software is the cause of the problem.
