Now, Firefox will not open, but instead, gives the error message, "Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system administrator." I've reinstalled it with a reboot https://github.com/mapbox/cfn-config/issues/47 between uninstalling and reinstalling. That didn't work. I installed a previous version, that didn't work. Finally, I reinstalled it without keeping any of my settings and bookmarks and it still doesn't work. I've checked my firewall and it's in the exceptions. Deleted that and replaced it. All to no avail. Still scratching my head. We recently uninstalled a proxy website's filtering program. So it must at least be specified to get that error. Try to delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling Firefox to be sure that all files are removed. Firefox 25 fails to read config file, on clean install 5 replies 32 have this problem https://support.mozilla.org/questions/975707 7400 views Last reply by cor-el 2 years ago j2mcgaha Posted 10/29/13, 10:50 AM I am attempting to install Firefox 25.0 onto an XP-SP3 machine and keep getting the error "Failed to read the Configuration File. https://docs.chef.io/errors.html Please contact your System Administrator". I am using a mozilla.cfg file that I created and have applied to previous versions. The mozillia.cfg file has lock Pref entries, all of which are formatted as follows; lockPref("network.protocol-handler.external.shell", failed to false); I have read the threads on the various forums and the recommended fix seems to be a "clean reinstall". This machine has never had Firefox installed, so a clean reinstall is not an option. As a side note this version of Firefox will not read the config file on any OS I have tried Win7, or XP, I did do a clean a reinstall on both of these machines with the failed to read same results. I appreciate your help with this. I am attempting to install Firefox 25.0 onto an XP-SP3 machine and keep getting the error "Failed to read the Configuration File.
