Un-comment below lines in /etc/pure-ftpd.conf PassivePortRange 30000 50000 The open the port in server firewall. If you have CSF then you will have to add 30000:50000 in TCP_IN settings in csf configuration file. If you server just has IPTABLES then run the below command iptables -INPUT -p tcp --dport 30000:50000 -j ACCEPT share|improve this answer answered Mar 17 '13 at 23:32 ServerTechSupport.com 11 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote After hours of my own research, nothing seemed to work. When looking under my iptables rules I noticed no packets were captured by my original rule of: iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport 30000:50000 -j ACCEPT That's the rule everyone says to use to resolve this issue, unfortunately it didn't work for me. That is when I noticed the chain called "cP-Firewall-1-INPUT". Bam! I added the rule under that chain and SUCCESS! Solution: (If you have a chain named "cP-Firewall-1-INPUT" Step 1: Un-comment below lines in /etc/pure-ftpd.conf PassivePortRange 30000 50000 Step 2: Allow the port range in iptables iptables -A cP-Firewall-1-INPUT -p tcp --dport 30000:50000 -j ACCEPT Step3: Then save your changes: iptables-sa

I moved from shared hosting to VPS. This is my first experience in setting up an VPS which went quite fine except I ran into failed to retrieve problem that cant access FTP. Searched a lot for solution and none of them helped me. Tried with active/passive mode, connecting directly to modem without WiFi router (with restart), disabling completely firewall, setting up Filezilla with various options, used various FTP clients (Filezilla older and latest version, Cute FTP, Core FTP, Total Commander)... Also talked with hosting support and they told me that it was problem with some ports which they fixed. After that I was able to access FTP for just one hour. That was two days ago. I attached two print screens from FTP Online Tester and Filezilla. If it helpes, VPS is running on CentOS 5, Virtuozzo and cPanel. As I don't have any experience in Unix can someone please take a look and suggest me what to do. Is this problem on client side or server? Thanks a lot in advance.
