Cannot proceed" - Solution This morning I faced a problem with my office PC. It just refused to take an IP from my DHCP server. A repait of the network connection gives this error message: Quote: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed. After a bit of searching I found a solution somewhere that actually worked. Here you go: Solution 1 - Repair TCPIP.SYS Download the file Update for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB884020) and install it. It may fix the corrupted TCPIP.SYS file which could resolve this issue. Solution 2 - TCP/IP stack repair Start > Run > CMD to open a command prompt. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. Type in the following command in the command prompt and press Enter. Code: netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults. Type in the following command in the command prompt and press Enter. Code: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the machine. One of these solutions should resolve the error and the workstation should have a leased IP once rebooted.
