I have two machines running ubuntu 9.04 with the KVM stuff installed. When I try to do the migrate command I get this: virsh # migrate ubuntuTest qemu+ssh://vmserver06.ttr/system error: operation failed: failed to parse XML I have also tried to migrate it through the virt-manager which said that the current version in the ubuntu repository is out of date and does nothing when I try to migrate the server. It says it has been fixed in the next release 0.7.0. So I downloaded it compiled from source and now I get this: Error migrating domain: invalid argument in only tcp URIs are supported for KVM migrations. Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/share/virt-manager/virtManager/engine.py", line 556, in migrate_domain vm.migrate(destconn) File "/usr/local/share/virt-manager/virtManager/domain.py", line 1342, in migrate self.vm.migrate(self.con
SASL credentials, etc.) set up to allow migrations to work, I was greeted with the following error: virsh # migrate -live kvmnode1 qemu+tcp://thecrue/system error: invalid argument in only tcp URIs are supported for error: no connection driver available for qemu:///system KVM migrations This message wasn't the most descriptive error I've ever read, so I libvirtd error unable to initialize network sockets turned to the libvirt source to see what was going on. I saw the following comment: /* Prepare is the first
Cannot Read Ca Certificate '/etc/pki/ca/cacert.pem': No Such File Or Directory
step, and it runs on the destination host. */ And immediately fired up virsh to double check the migrate syntax I was using: $ virsh Welcome to virsh, the virtualization interactive terminal. Type: 'help' for https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1152271 help with commands 'quit' to quit virsh # help migrate ..... migrate [--live] [] [] I had accidently run the migrate command from the destination host instead of the source host. Once I knew what was going on, I fired off the migrate from the source host and everything worked flawlessly: virsh # migrate -live kvmnode1 qemu+tcp://thecrue/system virsh # I really dig KVM, and have recently become http://prefetch.net/blog/index.php/2009/06/15/migrating-kvm-hosts-with-virsh/ somewhat smitten with openvz. Both technologies rock, and I hope to talk about my experiences with each virtualization technology sometime in the future. matty on June 15, 2009 | Filed Under Linux KVM 10 Comments Charles Darke on June 15th, 2009 How does it compare with Xen. I really like xen with xen-tools. Creating a new xen VM is as simple as doing: xen-create-image -ip=1.2.3.4 -hostname=host -dist=lenny and the VM is created in seconds and I have serial console access through simple command: xm console host I'm hoping it can be as easy with KVM, but am waiting for it to mature (and hoping the Xen will merge with mainline). sh1ny on August 11th, 2009 Live migration and creating a virtual machine are two completely different things. What you wrote about xen-create-image is done the same way with virt-install. Gbyte on January 12th, 2010 Hello! How you synhronise guest disk images in live migration? davidwk on January 29th, 2010 During a migration the disk image isn't synchronized at all. Typically what happens is the image is available to both machines via an NFS mount or iSCSI device. One word of caution, make sure the disk image is available at the same path on both machines or the

Do I have to load the xml in the vmserver06 machine? ________________________________ From: Matt Isaacs To: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-server/2009-May/002881.html Dan Sheffner Cc: Mark Foster ; ubuntu-server at lists.ubuntu.com Sent: Friday, May 8, 2009 4:37:13 PM Subject: Re: KVM failover to another KVM server The XML config files have to be present on both http://forum.univention.de/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=1694 servers. The storage needs to be visible on both host nodes on the same path. Dan Sheffner wrote: > I have also tried with the virtual machine manager to migrate from one > server to another.
