ERROR: Failed to connect to server up vote 4 down vote favorite 1 I try to google all the morning and i think i need Stackoverflow now! I wrote a simple script to send a mail (from hotmail to gmail) but i get this error: SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after connected host has failed to respond. (10060) a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. (10060)SMTP Connect() failed. However, it seems that PHPMailer does not wait for the greeting message and send the HELO command. It results in "SMTP Connect()" error. I did https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/issues/104 telnet-ed to the SMTP server and manually time the delay. Here is the debug message: SMTP -> FROM SERVER:CLIENT -> SMTP: EHLO www.my-domain-name.com SMTP -> FROM SERVER: 220 the.smtp-server.com ESMTP SMTP -> ERROR: EHLO not accepted from server: 220 the.smtp-server.com ESMTP CLIENT -> SMTP: HELO www.my-domain-name.com SMTP -> FROM SERVER: 250-the.smtp-server.com 250-STARTTLS 250-PIPELINING 250-8BITMIME 250-SIZE 68000000 250 AUTH LOGIN PLAIN CRAM-MD5 CLIENT -> SMTP: AUTH LOGIN SMTP -> ERROR: AUTH not accepted from server: 250 the.smtp-server.com CLIENT -> SMTP: quit SMTP -> FROM SERVER:334 VXNlcm5hbWU6 SMTP -> ERROR: SMTP server rejected quit command: 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6 SMTP Connect() failed. FYI, another users had reported similar issue before. http://ogre.ikratko.com/archives/148 I also tested the SMTP server with swiftmailer and it works. ooxi commented Sep 9, 2013 Which platform and PHPMailer version are you using? PHPMailer should wait for any announcements before sending HELO edwardfung123 commented Sep 9, 2013 I am running ubuntu 12.04
