image cannot be found From Libvirt Wiki Jump to: navigation, search Migration fails because disk image cannot be found A domain cannot be migrated because libvirt complains that it cannot access disk image(s):

# virsh migrate qemu qemu+tcp://fedora2/system error: Unable to allow access for disk libvirtd relocation error path /var/lib/libvirt/images/qemu.img: No such file or directory Background By default, migration only transfers in-memory state of a running qemu-kvm could not open disk image permission denied domain (memory, CPU state, ...). Disk images are not transferred during migration but they need to be accessible at the same path from both hosts. Solution Some kind of shared https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Virtualization_Deployment_and_Administration_Guide/sect-Troubleshooting-Common_libvirt_errors_and_troubleshooting.html storage needs to be setup and mounted at the same place on both hosts. The simplest solution is to use NFS: Setup an NFS server on a host serving as shared storage (this may even be one of the hosts involved in migration, as long as all hosts involved are accessing via NFS): # mkdir -p /exports/images # cat >>/etc/exports http://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Migration_fails_because_disk_image_cannot_be_found < Tags Search LQ Wiki Search Tutorials/Articles Search HCL Search Reviews Search ISOs Go to Page... Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description If a machine CDROM is connected to an ISO file, and the file is deleted in the meantime, the machine refuses to start, giving following error message: Error starting domain: Unable to allow access for disk path /home/someuser/some.iso: No such file or directory This shows as fatal error (there is only a "Close" button that will cancel starting), which is pretty confusing: such trivial thing as missing CD should not prevent whole machine from starting. Please see screen-shot for illustration. STR: 0 - Have a guest machine with CDROM and an "ISO file" on host machine (any, even empty file will suffice) 1 - Connect guest's CDROM to the file (you will need to select "Browse Local" to get standard file-browsing dialog) 2 - (probably optional) Start the machine and turn it off 3 - Delete the ISO file 4 - Try to start the machine again > result: error message is shown and machine refuses to start * oracle: either it should be possible to ignore the fact or the message should only appear as a pop-up warning ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease
