to WMI on remote machines Posted on 2003-08-15 Windows XP 1 Verified Solution 8 Comments 13,697 Views Last Modified: 2011-09-20 I've written a VB utility that allows me to check registry entries on remote machines. My https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff406382.aspx code uses WMI to access the remote registry. On 95% of the machines (Windows XP Pro) this works. However, on a few machines, remote WMI access seems to be disabled. Here are the symptoms: - My WMI call {Set oReg = GetObject("winmgmts:{imper

WMI is not very firewall friendly. Use the WBEMTEST tool to attempt to connect to the remote machine' s namespace \\[machine name]\root\ccm. You may also want to go to computer management and attempt to connect to that machine. Then go in under Services and Application and view properties of the to wmi namespace WMI Control. #2 rventriglia Total Posts : 83 Scores: 2 Reward points : 15610 Joined: 7/20/2001 Status: offline RE: WMI errors Monday, July 11, 2005 10:22 AM (permalink) 0 There is no firewall. I tried the wbemtest and I get another error: Error Number 0x800706ba Facility: Win32 Description: The RPC server is unavailable. If I try to connect WMI Control via Computer Management I get the following error: Failed to connect to \\workstationname because " Win32: The RPC server is unavailable." The WMI service is started and so is the RPC service. I can ping these workstations and connect to the administrative shares. #3 mgerman Total Posts : 203 Scores: 7 Reward points : 0 Joined: 2/24/2005Location: Rocky Mount, NC Status: offline RE: WMI errors Monday, July 11, 2005 10:55 AM (permalink) 0 Have you tried just restarting those 2 services? #4 rventriglia Total Posts : 83 Scores: 2 Reward points : 15610 Joined: 7/20/2001 Status: offline RE: WMI errors Monday, July 11, 2005 11:22 AM (permalink) 0 Yes, I tried restarting the services as well as rebooting the workstation. Still no luck. #5 jfunderburg Total Posts : 271 Scores: 32 Reward points : 4120 Joined: 10/26/2004Location: Nashville, TN Status: offline RE: WMI errors Monday, July 11, 2005 1:44
