I followed the steps outlined in the KB linked above and where I had some success with some of my VMs that I got the 3948 error with, others were still giving me grief. When following the above KB, I had take the final step of cloning the VM to consolidate all the helper snapshots, but like I said that only fixed some of the VMs.After further digging I discovered that my VDR appliance wasn't letting go of the linked-clone VMDKs it had created of the pre-cloned VMs. In

← Vcenter 4.1 giving error on windows 2008 R2 server forDSN Scheduled Tasks->An error has occurred attempting to retrieve task accountinformation → Vmware VDR 1.2 snapshot capability notworking Posted on January 31, 2011 by Vikas Sukhija I was doing the implementation of VMWARE VDR 1.2 appliance but unfortunately it was giving error on all the VMS that were running on windows 2008 I have drilled down & followed many blog posts, especially the below one. http://www.resole.nl/vmware-data-recovery-failed-to-create-snapshot-error-3960-3948-3941/ I was able to solve the issue for one of my VM's by remove VSS from vmware tools. There were other VMS as well that was having issues, finally what solved the issue for me ->I have moved all VMs to another ESX server using vmotion. So there might be some configuration issue in my ESX server as I am able to repeat this many a times. Right now I am working to find out what can be the difference between to ESX hosts, for now my VDR is working but still some work is left to fix it completely.
