It appears the both my MFT and MFT Mirror are both corrupt. Test confirmed the t HDD was good but TESTDISk was unable to repair the MFT. The computer is malware free and virus free. The issue I have is that after a reboot the disk usage goes to 100% for about 2 to 5 minutes and you really cant do anything. Then when you open a program it takes a while for that program to open and disk usage again goes to 100%. This only happens the 1st time you open a program. Is it possible to repair the MFT without having to completely reinstall windows. Here is a link to my previous topic. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/570329/100-

I really hope you will be able to help. I found these forums after reading a post by Thrax on another topic, who seemed to know about this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My slave sata drive (a Western Digital 1600JD) corrupted today when my computer locked up for the first time ever in 3 years, and it will not http://icrontic.com/discussion/52450/testdisk-shows-mft-and-mft-mirror-bad-what-next open when in windows. I have been trying to fix it for over 6 hours now and am very lost, however, after much beating around I have concluded the following. - Windows is showing the drive as RAW - Testdisk shows that the MFT and MFT mirror are bad I am stuck now what to do. I can't get chkdsk /r to work on the slave D: drive as nothing happens. If testdisk identifies and MFT and MFT mirror are bad is all hope of recovery over? 0 Comments profdlp The Holy City Of Westlake, Ohio Dec 2006 edited Dec 2006 Did you have TestDisk do a deep scan for partitions and allow it to repair them? 0 PhilH930 Dec 2006 edited Dec 2006 Many thanks for your reply, and as you were typing that I was referred to you by Thrax. I have forwarded a private message on to you; hope you do not mind. I did the deep scan but did not proceed with the repair as I was unable to see that option. I did proceed with a write though, which made no difference. 0 profdlp The Holy City Of Westlake, Ohio Dec 2006 edited Dec 2006 Do any of these examples seem to fit the description of your

Hi, Please can anyone help with this....? I had a MFT corruption on two Samsung 1tb HD103SJ drives -- different machines. Both MFT and MFT Mirror are corrupt. I http://forum.pcmech.com/threads/recovery-options-for-a-damaged-mft.228468/ have used TestDisk, it tells me: "Both MFT and MFT mirror are bad - failed to fix." BUT -- After doing a low-level format and repartitioning the disk and Windows format on the first partition and quick format on the failed to second (890Gb - so i need it quicker!), TestDisk still reports: "Both MFT and MFT mirror are bad failed to fix." Is TestDisk reporting this correctly? I would expect a low-level format to erase the MFT altogether so it can be rebuilt by chkdsk/windows ? Do i have to replace the disk ? Or can I ignore this message? Obviously there is nothing on the disk,... but seems I cannot get rid of bad MFT message. I had already deleted partition table mft and mft twice and reformatted before I did low-level format, but the problem persists. Thanks in advance for any help....! buckle Reports: · Posted 5 years ago Top StringJunky Posts: 2454 This post has been reported. You might be looking at a failing hard disk... best solution would be to back up IF possible and re-install with a full format, not the quick one. More than likely you'll find disk problems and you might want to consider a new disk? Check this link too, might work? http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52450 Irv S. Reports: · Posted 5 years ago Top bukl Posts: 9 This post has been reported. thanks guys for the response... I will use the HSUTIL -- though I have already performed a SpinRite check and no physical errors. I am also going to check out ESTool -- which is for Samsung internal drives. Its a brand-new Samsung HD103SJ, literally FRESH out of the box -- installed XP and gave it to customer, came back a week later with MFT failure, having worked ok for the interim. since then i have: 1.deleted partition table 2.created new partitions 3. eformatted (SLOW not quick) both 4. MFT and MFT mirror are still bad 5. repeated steps 1 -3 6. did low-level format using HDDGu
Barefoot on the Moon! Staff Member Joined: Aug 23, 2002 Messages: 14,146 Location: Northeastern USA I have a windows 7 OS drive that seems to have failed without warning. It passes SMART tests and appears to have no bad sectors. Startup repair is unable to fix the issue, and any boot attempts (including safe mode) simply bring it back to startup repair. chkdsk reports no errors. sfc /scannow will not run, as it keeps displaying the error "There is a system repair pending which requires a reboot to complete. Restart windows and run sfc again". When I attempt to scan the MFT using various recovery programs, each one of them returns a "access violation" error. The partition is accessible when I connect the drive to another workstation. I can see some of the data, but not all of it. Besides a raw disk scan, are there any other options you can think of? Staff Member Joined: Aug 23, 2002 Messages: 14,146 Location: Northeastern USA It looks like the ubuntu fix is geared toward a corrupted MBR, which doesn't appear to be the case here, unfortunately. I'll give TestDisk a look. Force Flow, Dec 27, 2012 #3 Nuclear Krusader Mondsreitersmann Joined: Jul 6, 1999 Messages: 8,995 Location: Skingrad EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard.
