Before moving on, I would like to check whether the computer was logged on as Administrator when installing the update. If not, I suggest restarting the computer and then installing the update with Administrator Permission. If an Administrator account is used, the issue can be windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070005 caused if that Local Administrator account does not have sufficient rights. Users installing updates require the following rights: - Restore files and directory - Manage auditing and security logs - Backup files and directories - Take ownership of files and folders. To resolve this issue, we need to check the group policy to ensure users have the sufficient rights. To do so, please perform the steps below. Modify the Group Policy ================= 1. Log on to the system with an administrator account. 2. Click Start and click Run, type gpedit.msc in the open box and hit OK. 3. In the left pane, expand [Computer Configuration]\[Windows Settings]\[Security Settings]\[Local Policies] and highlight [User Rights Assignment]. 4. In the right pane, double click the item [Manage auditing and security log]. 5. But after downloading it, it fails installation, here's the Event logs: Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8007f004: Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1. A quick bit of Googling showed this to be to do with permissions, so I tried it again by running under local Admin (it's a Member Server, not a DC), but that failed with the same error. Any ideas?
