IMA service failing, smells like corrupt local host Started by Erich Mees , 10 July 2007 - 07:13 PM Login to Reply 11 replies to this topic Erich Mees Members #1 Erich Mees 4 posts Posted 10 July 2007 - 07:13 PM I have an IMA service failing to start on system https://discussions.citrix.com/topic/91635-ima-service-failing-smells-like-corrupt-local-host/ startup. Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 Enterprise 64-bit version is installed on Windows 2003 x64 Server R2, SP1. All components are installed on a single machine, which the sole server in the farm. The data store is an SQL server hosted on a separate machine. This problem has occurred on two attempts to install from scratch. Each time the IMA service would initially run, then failing after the first reboot of the host server. On my first try I was unable to revive the service and gave up. I then restored a pre-Citrix server image, deleted and recreated the default database for the SQL account used for the IMA data source connection, and started again. Here are the events that show up when rebooting:IMAService event 3616 "Configuration error: Failed to read the farm name out of the registry on a server configured to access the Data Store directly"IMAService event 3609 "Failed to load plugin V:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\System32\Citrix\IMA\Subsystems\ImaRuntimeSS.dll with error IMA_RESULT_CONFIGURATION_ERROR"IMAService event 3601 "Failed to load initial plugins with error IMA_RESULT_CONFIGURATION_ERROR"Service Control Manager event 7024 "The Citrix Independent Management Arc

In the Event Viewer there are the following errors. Failed to load plugin ImaPsSs.dll with error IMA_RESULT_FAILURE Failed to load plugin ImaRuntimeSS.dll with error IMA_RESULT_FAILURE Failed to load initial plugins with error IMA_RESULT_FAILURE The Independent Management failed to load Architecture service terminated with service-specific error 2147483649. Cause The MetaFrame server attempts to create a local host cache file on the local machine in the "Program files\citrix\independent management architecture" directory. This file is a subset of the data store and is a Microsoft Access database with extension .mdb. A necessary Access DLL file, used to complete this process, may not be registered or has insufficient permissions. Resolution The file mstjes40.dll needed by the Microsoft Jet Engine has not been registered. Register as follows using regsvr32. C:\Documents and Settings\administrator.FRENCHY>regsvr32 C:\Winnt\System32\msjtes40.dll Check the file for any permission issues. Then repeat the CHFARM. See this Microsoft article 905530 for more information. Additional Troubleshooting 1. Search the Knowledge Center for other articles on “2147483649.” 2. While Microsoft Access is not required on the Citrix Server, it can be used to further troubleshoot this issue. Using the account for the Citrix Server Farm Administration, chfarm, etc., attempt to create a blank database with tables and enter information into the tables. If this underlying functionality is not working properly, it would not be expected that Citrix would be able to create the Local Host Cache (LHC). 3. server came up fine, however, the IMA service would not start. The following errors showed up in the event log in succession every time we tried starting the service. It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt. The reason why the IMA service would not start was due to an issue with the Local Host Cache database. The Local Host Cache database is used in a Citrix farm to allow a Citrix server to function even if it loses temporary access to the data store. It is an MS Access database named lmalhc.mdb and is stored by default in
