failure of a report query. The error occurs when the SQL query the report is based on cannot execute properly. The error "Failed to Open a Rowset" is used generically by Crystal Reports to represent any SQL query error.Step 1Review any changes https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/905310 you have made to the database your report is generated from, such as changes to the database name or tables added to the database. If the database name has changed, change the Location attribute for your report to reflect the database's new name. Adding a table may cause new links to be https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-solve-the-failed-to-open-a-rowset-error created automatically. The new links may alter the structure of your tables or database and cause your query to fail.Step 2Compare the tables included in the report to the the tables referenced in your SQL query. If the query or an ad hoc query references a table that is not included in the report, the SQL query will be unable to execute and Crystal Reports will throw the "Failed to Open a Rowset" error.Step 3Review the stored procedures used by the report you are attempting to generate. The user running the report must have the permissions necessary to execute all stored procedures used to compose the report. Correct the permissions if necessary and attempt to run your report again.Step 4Check the ODBC properties and settings for your report. Ensure that your are using ANSI nulls and ANSI quoted identifiers. Also make sure that the "Use DSN Default Properties" setting is set to false.Step 5Op
iMIS email address with VanGo/eSeries web login » October 31, 2005 "Failed to Open a Rowset" error when running Crystal Reports in iMIS This error occurs when the SQL statement used to generate the data for the report is invalid. http://vandamme.typepad.com/kb/2005/10/failed_to_open_.html It is likely that a table is being referenced that does not exist or does http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic487129-338-1.aspx not have adequate permissions in the report. The following are some examples where this error might occur: - A custom table or view was added to the report without adequate permissions. - An Ad Hoc query was run that references a table not included in the report. - Invalid Sort Options were added to the iMIS Report Spec. - A table was added failed to to the report, but no fields from that table occur in the report. - Aliased fields in the view have spaces in the alias names. Guidelines to avoid this error: 1. Make sure that the iMIS user group has SELECT permissions for all tables and views referenced in the report. 2. Make sure that at least one field exists on the report from each table in the report. You may wish to suppress (hide) the field on the report, failed to open but it must exist. 3. Always run Verify Database from the Database menu in Crystal before saving the report. If there are subreports included, you will also want to perform this step on each subreport. 4. Make sure there are no invalid fields added to the iMIS Report Spec under Options > Sort Fields or Options > Additional Fields. 5. If you are creating an Ad Hoc query that references a table that is not included in the report, you will need to either add the table to the report or create an Ad Hoc Calculation formula that includes a subquery which filters the data. For example if you wanted to print labels for a specific dues product code 'ABC', you would create the following Ad Hoc calculation: Name.ID in (select(ID)from Subscriptions where PRODUCT_CODE='ABC') **Note: There are no spaces before or after "(ID)" in the above statement. If you include these spaces, iMIS will not allow you to save the query. Review the custom Crystal Report and verify the FROM and WHERE clauses in the SQL query. Whenever you add a table to a Crystal report, you should open Database > Show SQL Query and verify the FROM and WHERE clauses (if applicable) to make sure they have been updated with any added table. In some cases, Crystal does not automatically update the SQL query and this could be the cause of this error.
