We went in and set each server's IP address as the primary DNS on the respective server and that seems to have resolved it, not entirely sure why, but it's a lot better now. Thank you for all the help! You may want to remove those programs as well as any other non-Windows programs from the startup using MSCONFIG. Then you can also set a computer group policy not to run any scripts at

Possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. DETAIL - The network path was not found. " Followed By: (2) "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a failed to query temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off." These two messages show up in the event log as event ID's: (1) 1509 and (2) 1511. On a similar server you are able to log on with these roaming profiles fine and you can also navigate to the folder where roaming profiles are located from the server that is giving me the error messages. I checked local security policies, security settings and connectivity issues. I also removed the copy of the local profile to under Docs and Settings but that was also unsucessful. Is there anything that I am missing? After disabling both, booting delay went away. I am aware of the probe service startup problem with Windows XP, as I experience it with about half the bootups, but that is not the problem I am reporting. The problem is solved for now with disabling of the services, and I will place them in manual startup mode to see if that also solves the problem. If it does, I will start them manually after the boot process is finished (when I remember!). Start with the core service first. I get the message "Not connected (connection refused)" and cannot connect even on retry. So I thought PRTG was broken, but found this morning that I can get to it by way of the PRTG Network Monitor through my browser. It has been running since yesterday's reboot as is evidenced by data from throughout the period. So further analysis will have to wait until the next reboot. I suppose I can automate the startup of the two services via a script that runs after boot. Any idea about how to best do that? This information would probably be of use to other XP users besides myself, since the probe service startup failure is common to all XP systems. Thank you.
