Any Ideas? sql-server visual-studio share|improve this question edited Oct 29 '12 at 16:10 SchmitzIT 5,53393055 asked Jan 9 '09 at 11:04 Martin add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote I ran into the same problem and discovered that caps-lock was on. Typing the correct password with caps-lock on gives the error message "Failed to remove package protection with error 0x80131940 "(null)", whereas typing the wrong password gives the "The password you have entered is incorrect" message. Very misleading but simple to fix. share|improve this answer answered Oct 15 '12 at 19:48 Andy 412 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote I believe you thought you had the right password but that you really didn't. I recently ran into this problem. I know you posted a long time ago but I could not find an answer when I ran into the same situation. Turns out I had the wrong password when I thought I had it right (I was not the one who created the package). I had assumed that since some wrong passwords produced a wrong password error message that I must have had the right password with the one that did not produce a wrong password message - it turns out that different wrong passwords can return different error messages when opening a password encrypted SSIS package! Very odd. At any

The password is configured within the connection mananger. The configuration string was included in the package configurations (SQL Server). The package http://stackoverflow.com/questions/427697/failed-to-remove-package-protection-with-error-0x80131940 is saved in VSS, and locally on my hard drive. When a colleague attempts to open the package is Visual Studio (from VSS), He gets a message similar to the following. Error 1 Error loading 'Geac_RK502.dtsx' : Failed to remove package protection with error 0x8009000B "Key not valid for use in specified state.". After he ran into this problem, I tried again to open the package from my computer (the machine that the package was created on) and now I get the same message. If I attempt to open the package anyway, I first get a message that there were errors in the package while it was being loaded, and that the package might be corrupt. After that message, I get one that states the document contains one or more extremely long lines of text....do you still want to open the file. If I click yes, the package opens read only with the following message: Microsoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document. Failed to remove package protection with error 0x80090008. Solved SSIS password Recovery or expiration Posted on 2010-02-04 MS SQL Server failed to 1 Verified Solution 1 Comment 1,842 Views Last Modified: 2013-11-10 Hi Experts: I have a few SSIS packages that were password-protected (their protection level is apparently EncryptAllWithPassword) by a developer who left the company and can't be reached anymore, and trying to open them gives the following error since the password can't be supplied: Error loading 'Package.dtsx' : Failed to failed to remove remove package protection with error 0xC0014037 "The package is encrypted with a password. The password was not specified, or is not correct.". This occurs in the CPackage::LoadFromXML method. Is there any any way to open these packages? I have access to the administrator account originally used to create these packages and have other packages encrypted by the same person but using a different password that I know. I have contacted a local Microsoft representative about the issue and so far they have only linked me to a a page describing how to set or change a password, which doesn't help because I need to open the package first or provide the old password. Has anyone been in a similar situation before or knows a way around this issue? 0 Question by:kmgingee Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 11 Best Solution bydodge20 You should be able to open the solution file and either set it to EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey, or enter a new password in the package level properties (security section).
