We have a few user who face the error message "Failed to save table attributes of (null) into (null)" whenever they try to create a pivot table based on external data saved in a text file (csv). I didn't find much information about this error but this MS page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/235889 There is no solution available but the statement "You can ignore the error and save the DSN. Then you can reconfigure the same DSN without getting an error" which doesn't seem to be true in our case. If I log into these users' machines with my own Windows profile I cannot reproduce this issue. It seems to be connected to the local profiles of the user's affected. I don't want to delete these profiles as I don't want to reset all personal settings. Many thanks for any hints! Use the schema.ini file - odbc creator alwas creates this file during import of csv/txt files. If You create Your own csv file the import will be correct. You must place schema.ini file in the same folder as Your target file. You can google shchema.ini - its easy to create one . The file conteins import specification (column names, their formats, imported file name etc.). How do I use a text file as an ODBC Lookup table in EzeScan? a. First use wordpad to create a simple text lookup file in the c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Outback Imaging\Lookups directory. The file will use a csv format. For example we will create a file called c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Outback Imaging\Lookups\Formtypes.txt. It will contain several rows like: "001","Form 1" "002","Form http://www.excelbanter.com/showthread.php?t=204906 2" Where column 1 is the form TYPE, and column 2 is the form DESCRIPTION. b. Then we create a new ODBC DSN using the Microsoft Text Driver (.txt). This will effectively make the text lookup file behave as a simple database table. To do this use the Control->Panel->Administrative Tools->Data Sources(ODBC) option to start the ODBC Data Source Administrator form. Then create a System DSN https://www.ezescan.com.au/faqs/60-how-do-i-use-text-file-odbc-lookup-table-ezescan using the Microsoft Text Driver . The ODBC Text Setup form is displayed. Set the Data Source Name to Formtypes. Then Untick 'Use Current Directory'. Then press Select Directory and browse to the c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Outback Imaging\Lookups directory and press OK (Please Note that in some cases you might not be able to see this directory until you remove the hidden attribute on the :\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data directory). Press the Options>> button and then press the Define Format button. in the list of tables select Formtypes.txt and then press Guess. Press OK. Ignore the error message that says "Failed to save the attributes of (null) into (null)" - its a Microsoft issue. Press OK to close the ODBC Text Setup form. Close the ODBC Data Source Administrator form. If you now look in the c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Outback Imaging\Lookups directory there is now a new file called schema.ini that contains: [formtypes.txt]ColNameHeader=FalseFormat=CSVDelimitedMaxScanRows=25CharacterSet=OEMCol1=F1Col2=F2 c. Using Wordpad or Notepad edit the c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Outback Imaging\Lookups\schema.ini file so that it contains the following text: [formtypes.txt]ColNameHeader=FalseFormat=CSVDelimitedMaxScanRows=25CharacterSet=OEMCol1=TYPE Char Width 255Col2=DESCRIPTION Char Width 255 Close the editor, saving the changes. d. Then in KFI use the KFI Admin form, edit button to edit the KFI filed that is going to use this ODBC

We will leverage the JDBC-ODBC to interact with a CSV file, reading and writing to it with SQL. Such a technique can be particularly failed to useful for someone trying to write simple database code, but not able to because a local database instance is not pragmatic. Author Info: By: Kulvir S. As stated earlier, we will interact with the CSV file as an ODBC source. To do this, we will use the ODBC Data Source Administrator to define the file as an ODBC data source. From the control panel’s Administrative Tools, double click the “Data Sources (ODBC)” to open the ODBC Data Source Administrator (See Figure 2).Figure 2: The Data Sources Administrative Tool From the ODBC Data Source Administrator’s “User DSN” tab, click “Add…” to define a new user data source (See Figure 3). Figure 4: Choosing the Microsoft Text DriverFrom the “ODBC Text Setup” window, click on the “Options>>” button to reveal additional properties. Name the data source “StateBirdDS” as shown in Figure 5. Deselect the “Use Current Directory” checkbox and click on the “Select Directory” button to reference the provided “statebirds.txt” file. Next, click on the “Define Format…” button. Figure 5: Defining Your Data Source From the “Define Text Format” window’s “Tables” pane, select “statebir
