Our samba setup is as follow : Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga) - Samba Server Samba version 3.0.33-3.14.el5 - Samba version Domain Controller WIN2008R2 Standard - Windows DC Windows 7 64 bit - Client PCs User mentioned that he faced this problem after he force shutdown his PC few weeks ago. By right, for all users when we access \\sambaservername in windows it will show all the shares in the samba server but for this user once he startup his PC he will not be able to access \\sambaservername, Error message Windows cannot access \\sambaservername Current workaround to solve the problem : Try to access one share in \\sambaservername for instance \\sambaservername\sharedfolder1. But even when doing so, it will first prompt an error in the beginning, error message is as follows Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. user need to enter the credentials again and he can access the share. Thereafter, he will be able to access \\sambaservername without any issues. But once he reboots his computer the problem will persists. Troubleshooting done so far: Ensure the fol

I we are migrating form domain ad.adc.com to ad.xyz.com , there is a trust between the two domains. Before the move the file server was work perfectly, post migration I get the following in the samba logs [2013/08/19 08:07:15.961679, 1] smbd/sesssetup.c:342(reply_spnego_kerberos) Failed to verify http://serverfault.com/questions/439640/windows-7-samba-issue incoming ticket with error NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE! And on the windows client I get prompted for username and password , It won't accept any of the ones I have provided. My workstation and the others that can't access it are all on the new domain as the file server (ad.xyz.com) I have a number of other file servers migrated to ad.xyz.com and they are fine. I have googled and found the issue is related to Kerberos. I have update the dns to ensure that the servers hostname resolves correctly in both forward and reverse lookups. I have noted that /etc/krb5.conf is very different between the working servers and the broken one , but I don't know much about Kerberos so I'm lost. I have update to : pbis : 7.0.918 samba :3.6.6-0.129.el5 krb5 : 1.6.1-70.el5_9.2 OS is CentOS 5.3 Clients are windows 7 Any suggestions on how to resolve this ? docalloFebruary 29th, 2012, 02:52 AMHi, I need some help to get Samba and Active Domain to play nicely. The server https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1933215.html is an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with Kubuntu to provide GUI, running Samba 3.4.7 We have several other Linux servers that work perfectly well however this is the first 10.04LTS https://groups.google.com/d/topic/mailing.unix.samba/JkcRX7f1Tv4 the others are 8.04LTS. Authentication is done through Kerberos/AD and works great! We use NX for remote login and it is working well. There is no “shared folder”. The failed to users use Samba to access their home directory from their WinXp or Win7 machines. But we are always asked for our credentials and then the authentication fails. The only errors that I can find is this message in the Samba log. The Samba log shows: 2012/02/28 09:40:48, 1] libads/kerberos_verify.c:336(ads_secrets_verify_ticket) ads_secrets_verify_ticket: failed to fetch machine password [2012/02/28 09:40:48, failed to verify 1] smbd/sesssetup.c:342(reply_spnego_kerberos) Failed to verify incoming ticket with error NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE!
