> Group Policy Question 0 Sign in to vote I have an active directory domain with SBS 2003 domain controller (upgraded https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/294257 from Windows 2000), and I have recently added two Server 2008 domain controllers. Everything is working great, except I am unable to edit or add new Group Policies. I get an access denied messege whenever I try through the management console. I am https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/122cedce-ada1-46bd-9b4a-2066223743e7/access-denied-addingediting-policies-though-gpmc?forum=winserverGP however able to edit the policy is I navigate to it through sysvol/domain/policies/etc. I have double check permissions on everything, and I ran gpotool and everything looks great. I am also not getting any errors in event viewer. Thanks. account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Hi guys, After some issues getting GPMC installed on our Windows 2k3 Domain Controller (.net frameworks issues) I was able to launch https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/321163-group-policy-error-cannot-find-gpedit-msc group policy management console. I am new to Group Policy so I wanted to start off slow so I created a new GPO called "My first GPO". When I right click and choose 'edit' I get an error saying that gpedit.msc cannot be found, even though it's located under c:\windows\system32\. I can manually launch gpedit.msc. So I was wondering where I would copy the gpedit.msc executable in my path failed to so that when I right click on GPO's I am able to edit them. Cheers and thanks for any and all help. Then type: regsvr32 gpedit.dll press enter, this re-register's the dll. After doing that try running your mmc snap-in again, does the error persist? If not try re-installing it, use these directions: http://www.ehow.com/how_7272121_reinstall-gpedit_msc.html
1 Anaheim OP KurtJP Apr 4, 2013 at 6:33 UTC Hi, First of all thanks for your input and suggestions. I appreciate it, alot :) I tried unregistered and re-registering the dll without success. I am making a backup copy of system32 just in case something goes horribly wrong. Also I noticed that I dont have a c:\windows\system32\grouppolicy\ folder. Should I create one? Also, the download link for gpedit is for xp home and we run Windows 2k3. Is that going to be an issue? Thanks 0 Anaheim OP Best Answer KurtJP Apr 4, 2013 at 6:40 UTC Hello, I noticed that the Group Policy Management Console launches from C:\windows\SysWOW64\ so I copied the gpedit.msc from c:\windows\system32\ to C:\windows\SysWOW64\ and it now works. Thanks for the help none the less I appreciate :) cheers 1 Pure Capsaicin OP Little Green Man Apr 4, 2013 at 6:46 UTC KurtJP wrote: Hi, First of all thanks for
