The Process Account Used To Run Asp.net Must Have Read Access To The Iis Metabase
someone can help as I may have to kill a amall mammal out of frustration otherwise... the neighbours cat may be my first victim! I'm trying to access the CruiseControl.NET website on my machine (running XP SP2, IIS 5.1, with .NET 1.1 and 2.0) but I keep getting the following error: Failed to access IIS metabase. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironmentException: Failed to access IIS metabase. The process account used to run ASP.NET must have read access to the IIS metabase (e.g. IIS://servername/W3SVC). For information on modifying metabase permissions, please see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=267904. I've googled and attempted the various given solutions, i.e. re-install .NET 2.0, register asp.net with aspnet_regiis tool, made sure the website is set to the right Framework... nada! Browsing to a .html page in the site works fine, browsing to a .NET 1.1 site works fine... what's the deal with .NET 2.0 sites? Any help would be massive! I have just got a new pc and my problem is that I am not able to access this webservice. I have created a https://forums.iis.net/t/prev/1182605 virtual directory in IIS, but if I try to browse there, I get a "Failed to acces IIS metabase" error message. Does anybody know how I can resolve this problem? I did try your suggestions, but they did not help. I suspect the cause of the problem is that VS 2005 RC was installed before IIS. Now, I am awaiting the official release very soon, so I have decided to not care about this before that and install everything from scratch when I am getting the official release. I installed things in the natural order. I can't recall if I installed IIS (5.1) before or after .NET 1.1 and Visual Studion 2003 (installed 3 years ago), but this same box had (and still has) ASP.NET 1.1 applications that run just fine. Recently, I installed Visual Studio failed to access 2005. When I hit an ASP.NET 2.0 application I get the "Failed to access IIS metabase." error message. If I set the userName to SYSTEM in the processModel of the machine.config file, the appliaction works just fine. Omitting the userName attribute gives me the error. From reading other posts, this is indicative of a permissions problem. So, without specifying the userName, I tried the application while running filemon, but I don't see any file access getting denied like I expected to see based on the posts I have read. I have run: aspnet_regiis -i and aspnet_regiis -ga ASPNET and neither of them resolves the problem. I have also tried reinstalling .NET 2.0 and that didn't fix anything either. What do I do next? Thanks.
