Re: "Failed to export pdf file" in indesign Eugene Tyson Apr 12, 2010 8:07 AM (in response to capstick13) I think there's something wonky on one of your pages that is causing it to crash:Try the divide and conquer method.Export the first half to pdf, then the second half. Then half them again and again, until you find the problem page(s).If both halves export just fine then just combine them in acrobat again. But you might want to consider that your file might have a bit of corruption so check out this post:(as always keep a backup of your file just in case)http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526991 Like Show 2 Likes(2) Actions 3. Indesign Not Exporting Jpeg
Article Share on Google+ Pin This Article In the last few days I've been playing around some the interactive features of InDesign. I created a few buttons with effects https://forums.adobe.com/thread/615575 and text and because there's no way to test these features within InDesign, I attempted to export a PDF with all of the appropriate settings: Acrobat 6 compatibility, Include Interactive Elements and Embed all Multimedia Content. The result was nothing. No PDF and no error message generated. Generally, I enjoy a good mystery, but this one had me baffled. After http://indesignsecrets.com/pdf-export-problems-toggle-tagged-pdf-on-and-off.php some testing and conferring with a few other folks, it became apparent that the combination of text and the bevel/emboss effect on the button was causing the issue. Sure enough, converting the text to outlines or getting rid of the effect resulting in a successful PDF export. When I posted this information on the User to User forum, I was directed to a thread that discussed this issue. It turns out that the "fix" for this is toggle the Create Tagged PDF setting to whatever it wasn't set to. I had it off so I enabled it and sure enough, the PDF exported successfully with text and effects on the button. This reminded me of an older issue with PDFs suffering from what I like to refer to as "bunched text syndrome" where a section of text is all pushed into a small area. The toggle trick usually works to fix that, too. I'm not going to sit here and profess that this will fix every PDF export, but it worked for me this time and it's cer
solutions are summarised here with links to their sources. You may have to search the linked http://jadn.co.uk/w/InDesignCS3ErrorFailedToExportPDF.htm webpage to find the relevant part, since some pages contain several solutions. General strategy The general strategy employed by users seems to be to try exporting a http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/forum/software/adobe-products/62725-indesign-cs5-pdf-could-not-be-created few pages at a time until you locate which page or pages are the source of the problem. Sometimes exporting the document in sections solves the problem, failed to and the resulting PDF files can be stitched together in Acrobat to create the finished product. Firstly you should try loading a different InDesign file and try exporting it as a PDF. If it exports fine, the problem is with your file - if not, you may have a problem with your computer configuration, installation, failed to export permissions, memory, disk space, etc. Other solutions seem to centre on one of seven areas dealt with below: Close and restart InDesign Simplify a copy of the document Grouping/overlapping/cropping/crossing the fold Correcting problems with image formats or fonts Changing InDesign Options Computer permissions and configuration Software bugs Adobe made some suggestions in their April 2007 TechNote Troubleshoot problems that occur when you export documents to PDF (InDesign CS, 1.0-2.x) with stepwise instructions for many of the remedies. If you want to check that you're using all the recommended InDesign settings for export, there's an excellent step-by-step guide called "Configuring applications" with screenshots of all the dialog box settings available free from the pass4press website. 1. Try this first - close and restart indesign just close and re-open InDesign! - Ben Slater, using CS3, found that a document that "Failed to export PDF" could be exported in smaller sections (50 pages per time), but that when the error reappeared for a particular sect
