Now, in order to get the data created, I typed SOURCE metropolises.sql; into the mysql failed to open file error 13 terminal, however the error message as described above showed up. Pretty sure there's no error in the table created. –Clueless Gorilla Feb 4 '13 at 10:22 add a comment| 12 Answers 12 active oldest votes up vote 50 down vote Assuming you mean that you are trying to use the source command in order to execute SQL statements from a text file, the error number given appears to be passed through from the POSIX layer. Therefore, using this resource, we can deduce that the error value of 2 means "no such file or directory". In short, you got the path wrong. Try providing an absolute path, as it's not clear what the current working directory will be in the context of your MySQL server. You may be assuming that it's the working directory of your shell, but it's not obvious that we should expect this to be true. share|improve this answer answered Feb 4 '13 at 9:59 Lightness Races in Orbit 218k36337584 Thanks. I know this is stupid, but how to find the file I created under within a database? –Clueless Gorilla Feb 4 '13 at 10:29 Provide an absolute path. The full path. Including directory. –Lightness Races in Orbit Feb 4 '13 at 10:41 1 As an added note, do not put the full path in quotes. SOURCE "/var/test.sql"; will fail with error code 2, while SOURCE /var/test.sql will work (assuming test.sql exists at that location). –Will Martin Jun 2 '15 at 21:11

If you do use backslashes, you must double them. Make sure your LOAD statement has the complete path name to the file, like in the following example: LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/home/yourHomeDir/yourFile.txt' INTO TABLE targetTable; Another possibility could be file permissions. If in doubt, make the file readable by all users. Source(s): MySQL LOAD DATA Syntax: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/l... rbjolly · 6 years ago 0 Thumbs up 0 Thumbs down Comment Add a co

The file is going to be read in with the privs of the mysqld process, not your privs. Try this: Code: chmod o+
