Problem appeared when https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1831509 I restarted the system. I hangs on X start phase showing me something X is in low screen resolution mode blah-blah-blah... I'm able to start X though, by go to 1) safe mode in GRUB, 2) root console, 3) startx as root user or 1,2, 3) telinit 3, 4) log in as regular user, 5) startx. While booting the system reports several process ended and being re-spawned... Well, why I think it's dbus problem: There are several error messages like "Failed to open connection to system bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: Connection refused" appear when I or the system try to start something... I'm a newbie in Linux, therefore I don't know to where direction should I dig... I do appreciate any help in making my system revive and this forum is only my hope as google doesn't give any clue... Also the Xorg is starting normally Rachid Achellal (rachid-s) on 2011-07-16 tags: added: oneiric pacrook (paul-crook) wrote on 2011-07-16: #2 I can confirm I'm experiencing the same problem with dbus service failing to start. Log reports "dbus main process ... terminated with signal 1". Desktops report "Cannot open ConsoleKit Session unable to open session failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket connection refused." Many things then broken. Deleting pid system_bus_socket in /var/run/dbus and rebooting cures it

I wanted to use Scribes as my text editor. I was able to open it once and now it won't open. I get a Starting Scribes message on my bottom panel (I'm using Gnome) but then nothing happens. It's set as the default text editor, but no files will open with it either. I'm using Scribes 0.3.3.3-1. Any ideas? I uninstalled and reinstalled the scribes package. In other words open a terminal (probably gnome-terminal in your case) and type "scribes". See if you get any error messages and post them here. How do I change the permission?
