Since I like yaourt pacman could not satisfy dependencies and wanted to keep it I follow the instructions on their page (http://archlinux.fr/yaourt-en#get_it). I added their repo to my dcadec: /usr/lib/libdcadec.so.0 exists in filesystem /etc/pacman.conf and then installed yaourt from pacman and now everything works again like it should. When I try to upgrade packages I get the following errors:[jason@barnaby ~]$ sudo pacman -Su :: The

However, I can't seem to uninstall Xfce 4 which I installed earlier when experimenting. I try running sudo pacman -Rs xfce4 in order to delete Xfce and all it's dependencies that other apps don't need. This is the http://superuser.com/questions/584064/why-cant-i-uninstall-pacman-package-with-rs-settings output that command produces: checking dependencies... error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: libxfce4ui: requires xfconf Which to me doesn't make any sense, perhaps it's obvious though. So why can't I uninstall this dependency? From what I understand, it can't uninstall it because another package (which is also going to be deleted) needs it, so it doesn't delete it and throws me this error... If my theory of what happening is correct, how can I go about making it not check for dependencies. If I'm wrong, which I probably am, how could I go about solving this error? uninstall arch-linux package-management share|improve this question asked Apr 17 '13 at 14:04 greduan 213619 Could you check if a system update sudo pacman -Syu produces the same error? –Nicolas Apr 17 '13 at 21:17 @Nicolas It does not output that error. I did download some updates. Thanks for reminding me. :) –greduan Apr 17 '13 at 21:54 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote You can try pacman -Rsc xfce4 From the Wiki: To remove a package, its dependencies and all the packages that depend on the target package. share|improve this answer answered Apr 18 '13 at 14:59 Stefan Seidel 5,
and http://thestandardoutput.com/posts/fixing-package-query-to-pacman-dependency-in-arch/ I ran into a peculiar dependency error with package-query that would complety halt the update. error: failed to prepare http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/10178/how-do-i-force-remove-a-package-in-arch-with-pacman transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: package-query: requires pacman<4.2 It turns out that this is totally expected and failed to it has to do with the new version of Pacman (4.2) breaking a few things related to backwards compatibility. This changes will require me to recompile and reinstall package-query and yaourt and here's how to do it: Uninstall could not satisfy package-query and yaourt sudo pacman -Rdd package-query sudo pacman -Rdd yaourt Get the latest bits from the AUR curl -O https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pa/package-query/package-query.tar.gz curl -O https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ya/yaourt/yaourt.tar.gz Explode the tarball and go into the each folder tar -zxf package-query.tar.gz tar -zxf yaourt.tar.gz cd package-query Compile makepkg -s Install sudo pacman -U package-query-1.5-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz Make sure to do steps 4 and 5 for the yaourt package also. And this is it... All should be in order now. archlinux linux package Previous post Next post Comments Please enable JavaScript to view the comments powered by Disqus.
