I have a home file (home.php) which has contains include ("/production/fetch_order.php"); ?>. As it can be seen i am trying to access a file from home.php. The file is named as fetch_order.php which is in the production folder. My path is correct, the spellings are absolutely correct too. However i end up with this error: Warning: include(/production/fetch_order.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or include() failed opening for inclusion directory in /path/to/home.php on line 119 Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening '/production/fetch_order.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/path/to/php/php5.3.6/lib/php') in /path/to/home.php on line 119 php php-include share|improve this question edited Jun 17 '13 at 13:57 Owen Blacker 2,5091957 asked Mar 4 '12 at 19:07 Namit 61631428 One often runs into this error, and to quickly troubleshoot it, follow these steps : stackoverflow.com/a/36577021/2873507 –Vic Seedoubleyew Apr 12 at 17:02 Possible duplicate of Failed to open stream : No such file or directory –Vic Seedoubleyew Apr 30 at 14:24 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted You are using an absolute path (/) at the start of the line, you need to remove that slash and it would be a relative path, example: production/fetch_order.php When adding a slash, it starts at the root directory of your system, without it, it looks in the current directory. share|improve this answer answered Mar 4 '12 at 19:11 MacMac 8,90234108192 Does the file actually exists or you need to enter the correct path to the file. Is there a folder named production in the same directory where home.php is? –MacMac Mar 4 '12 at 19:14 The file does exist. The home.php and the production folder are at the same level, and the production folder has a file named fetch_order.php &ndash

If you need the relocatability use: include("{$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']}/inc/header.php"); share|improve this answer answered Oct 29 '10 at 16:16 mario 105k14138224 1 I went a step further and did this: set_include_path("{$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']}/inc"); so that I could call all the includes using just the file name like this: include('filename.php'); –Ben Oct 29 '10 at 16:30 2 For portability sake, I wouldn't recommend using any of the $_SERVER paths... I recommend dirname(__FILE__); since it will always work

The / makes it start at the top of your filesystem. Note: filesystem path, not Web site path (you're not accessing it over HTTP). You can use a relative path with include_once (one that doesn't start with a leading /). You can change it to this: include_once 'headerSite.php';
