I have setup FTP connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity failed to retrieve directory listing numerous times, but this time I am having a problem. I believe the problem is on the server I am trying to connect 501 server cannot accept argument. failed to retrieve directory listing to, but I am unsure how to fix it. The box is running Windows Server 2008 Standard. I have created three users, added them to an FTPUSERS group - then given permission to that group to access the 501 server cannot accept argument ftp error directory I want to FTP to. I am running IIS7, with FTP enabled. It looks to be configured properly, but again, I'm not 100% sure. I also have the port on the firewall opened and forwarded to the correct IP address of the box. The port on the box is opened as well. I did a port scan to confirm this. When I try to connect I get the following error message. 01 Server cannot

accept argument. PORT command failed Error loading directory... I am not using port 21 - I am using a higher port number and this is configured in the FTP settings on the box. I have tried the fixes listed under support - to no avail.Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you. I set it up to use a specific port range but when my client tried to use passive mode it showed that it was using the wrong port. This article describes the method for calculating which port it is using. e.g. 227 Entering Passive Mode (x1,x2,x3,x4,y1,y2) The IP it would be using is x1.x2.x3.x4 and port (y1*256) + y2. I was seeing the wrong values for y1 and y2 so I had to restart "Microsoft FTP Service" to actually get it to recognize the values I had set in the FTP Firewall Settings in IIS. share|improve this answe

I also reding that Passive FTP is easyer to use for client side and more work for admins on the server FTP side. except publishing the FTP in the TMG what can I configure on the TMG? If other people are able to connect to your FTP Server through TMG, the other customer has to configure the FTP client correctly to connect successful to your FTP Serverregards Marc Grote aka Jens Baier - www.it-training-grote.de - w

If the remote network also has a NAT router, and you have not port-forwarded the port you are sending with your PORT command, the server will not be able reach you. The most common solution would be to send the PASV command to the server instead of the PORT command. The PASV command will ask the serve
