I'm using two USB keys, one 4GB and the other 8GB. I've tried copy pasting the commands and typing them by hand, both fail with the following error: C:\winpe_amd64>MakeWinPEMedia /UFD C:\winpe_amd64 U: WARNING, ALL DATA ON DISK DRIVE B: WILL BE LOST! C:\winpe_amd64> I want to create a PE environment for UEFI (FAT32). Sunday, February 03, 2013 3:46 PM Reply | Quote Answers 6 Sign in to vote I had the same problem. The problem lies with the MakeWinPEMedia.cmd After the script partitions and reformats the flash drive, the disk appears offline for about 10 seconds (can be verified if you have Explorer open). This for some reason messes up XCOPY in the way the command is written. SOLUTION: Open MakeWinPEMedia.cmd using notepad (notepad "C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\MakeWinPEMedia.cmd") REPLACE: xcopy /herky "%WORKINGDIR%\%TEMPL%" "%DEST%\" >NUL WITH xcopy /herky "%WORKINGDIR%\%TEMPL%\*.*" "%DEST%\*.*" >NUL notice

There are many other ISO files and other types of files in their respective sub-folders which are copied file creation error successfully using the above Xcopy command, but when copying this one particular iso file, I get an error msg: "File creation error - The parameter is incorrect." I have tried manually copying the file using the DOS Copy command and also dragging & dropping it in Windows Explorer with no trouble. The file is not corrupt as I can burn it onto a CD and play from it. Any ideas as to why Xcopy is not allowing me to copy this one file? I burned a cd a couple of years ago, many .mp3 music files. Now I am trying to copy those files off the cd onto my winXP machine. I could only copy half a dozen and then got an error message: 'cannot copy filename - the parameter is incorrect'. Googled around and read what I found and then tried xcopy from the dos box. I got about 70 of them and then got a very similar error message in dos: 'file creation error - the parameter is incorrect' There's about another 70 I need to get off the cd. And I'd really love to know what is going on, so's i can avoid it ever happening again. I can't find any further suggestions other than xcopy. Nor can I find any explanations of the mechanism that is giving rise to this. Can anyone in this forum help, perhaps? regards, ab Reply With Quote November 5th, 2006,05:05 PM #2 CCT View Profile View Forum Posts Registered User Join Date Feb 2006 Location Canada, Eh! Posts 4,090 edit: Welcome to WinDrivers: Try this: get the cd/dvd to LIST in Explorer and start from the bottom and click the bottom file then hold CTRL key down and click the next 19 going upward - then select copy and paste . If that works, do 20 at a time. Last edited by CCT; November 5th, 2006 at 05:12 PM.
